The Weekend Watch: Super Bowl Weekend

What to watch before the big game? The Weekend Watch is here to let you know the marquee games to watch. The PGA is in Phoenix for their wildest event of the year. College Basketball has three big conference games featuring Top 25 teams. The NBA is loaded with great games and a lot of offensive firepower. And finally the main event of the weekend, the Super Bowl takes place from Minneapolis, Minnesota.

PGA

What: Waste Management Phoenix Open
When: Saturday and Sunday
Time: 2:00-3:30 PM and 4:00-7:00 PM
How to Watch: Golf Channel, Golf Channel App, and CBS 

The PGA Tour makes a stop in Phoenix for “The Greatest Show on Grass”. The Par-3 16th Hole is must-see television. Hideki Matsuyama looks to defend his title. Also in the field, Rickie Fowler, John Rahm, Bubba Watson, and Phil Mickelson try to earn a victory early in the season.

Who: Kansas St @ 15 West Virginia
When: Saturday
Time: 4:00 PM
How to Watch: ESPN2 or WatchESPN

Kansas State travels to Huntington to take on 15th ranked West Virginia. The Wildcats come in as a winner of four of their last five. The Mountaineers come in with losses in their last three games. Both teams are tied in the BigXII at 5-4. They sit two games back of conference leader Kansas. In the first meeting, West Virginia won 77-69.

Who: BYU @ 14 Gonzaga
When: Saturday

How to Watch: ESPN2 or WatchESPN

BYU travels to Spokane to take on 14th ranked Gonzaga in a West Coast Conference game. The Cougars have won five of their last six games and are three games back of conference-leading St. Mary’s. The Bulldogs are winners of their last three and one game back of St. Mary’s. The Bulldogs are third in the country in scoring at 88.2 points/game. This is the first meeting between these two teams this season.

Who: Seton Hall @ 1 Villanova

Seton Hall travels to Philadelphia to take on the number one ranked Villanova Wildcats. The Pirates have won two in a row. This is a big game for Seton Hall, they are trailing Villanova by two games. The Wildcats have put together an eight-game winning streak. They have an overall record of 21-1 and 8-1 in conference play. Villanova is 8th in scoring at 87.8 points/game. This is a key game for both teams as Seton Hall is trying to catch Villanova and Villanova is only half a game up on Xavier in the Big East.

NBA

Who: Houston Rockets @ Cleveland Cavaliers
When: Saturday

How to Watch: ABC or WatchESPN

The Rockets travel to Cleveland to take on the struggling Cavaliers. The Rockets are sitting at second in the West whereas the Cavs are sitting third in the East. The Cavs are 4-6 in their last ten games. Both teams are in the top five in scoring, the Rockets scoring 114.1 points/ game (2nd) and the Cavs scoring 109.6 points/game (5th). The Cavs have done well at home with a 19-6 record.

Who: New Orleans Pelicans @ Minnesota Timberwolves

How to Watch: NBA League Pass

The Super Bowl isn’t the only must-see game in Minnesota this weekend. The Pelicans go on the road to take on the young Timberwolves. The T-Wolves have had the Pelicans’ number this season already beating them three times. The Pelicans sit at the 7th seed in the West three games back of the fourth-seeded T-Wolves. The Pelicans are still trying to figure out how to play without All-Star DeMarcus Cousins. Also, they are coming off a back to back playing the Thunder on Friday night. The T-Wolves are playing well at home 20-6.

Who: Portland Trail Blazers @ Boston Celtics

How to Watch: NBA League Pass

An appetizer for Patriots fans, the Celtics host the Trail Blazers in this noon tip-off. The Celtics are leading the Eastern Conference with 37-15 record whereas the Blazer are sitting in the 6th seed in the West. The Blazers are a game back of the 5th seeded Thunder. This will be a matchup of two of the better defences. The Celtics are giving up 98.3 points/game (2nd) and the Blazers 103.1 (7th).

NFL

What: The Super Bowl
Who: Philadelphia Eagles vs. New England Patriots
When: Sunday
Time: 6:30 PM
How to Watch: NBC or NBCSports App

The Main Event of the Weekend. The biggest football game of the year. Can the Eagles finally capture their first Super Bowl? Will the Patriots get their sixth ring? Can Tom Brady and Bill Belichick make it back-to-back Super Bowls. This should be a fun game between two offences that have been clicking this postseason. Also, it is the last meaningful football game until September. In addition, Justin Timberlake is performing the halftime show and who doesn’t love the Super Bowl commercials.
