Welcome to October! Another week of the 2024 NFL season has passed. With more highs and lows to behold, every team is looking to either break out of a funk or perpetuate their good fortunes. Every game, from here on out, will carry more and more weight with each passing week.
Here are the good, the bad, and the passable moments from week 4 of the current regular season.
NFL Week 4 Review
The Good
In Goff We Trust
Someone should have told Jared Goff on Monday Night that the Seattle Seahawks were undefeated because he made that defense look foolish. The Detroit signal-caller set a new record for most passes thrown in a game without throwing a single incompletion. Not only did this help #16 get his groove back, but it also kept the Lions in pace behind the Minnesota Vikings in the NFC North. Goff and company will look to ride that momentum into the Lone Star State as they face the Dallas Cowboys this Sunday.
Return of the King
It is safe to say that Derrick Henry has settled nicely into his home in the Charm City. In a showdown with the-then undefeated Buffalo Bills, “King” Henry spearheaded a relentless ground game that gave the Baltimore Ravens a 35-10 win. Though just falling short of a 200-rushing-yard performance, Henry sits only 18 yards shy of 10,000 rushing yards and five rushing touchdowns shy of 100 for his career. Do not be surprised if he reaches the former in the Ravens’ next matchup against the Cincinnati Bengals.
The Bad
Meltdown in Miami
Just last season, the Miami Dolphins boasted one of the most feared offenses in the NFL. Now, the 3-0-5 is just scrapping the bottom of the barrel, sitting last in the NFL in points scored per game. It doesn’t help that two quarterbacks, Tua Tagovailoa and Skylar Thompson, are out on the injured reserve, leaving Tyler Huntley to lead this once fast, exciting offense. Dolphins Head Coach Mike McDaniel will have to go back to the drawing board in order to salvage not only morale in the locker room but also the Dolphins’ season as a whole.
Ain’t No Sunshine When Jacksonville’s On
At least the aforementioned Dolphins can say they’ve won a game this season; the Jacksonville Jaguars cannot. As the last remaining winless team, Jacksonville has significantly regressed in 2024 on almost every front. From boasting the 3rd worst overall defense, and the 5th worst passing offense, 2024 is not panning out the way Duvall County wanted. Quarterback Trevor Lawrence is not having a day at the beach either, only completing 53.3% of his passes so far. 13 games still remain on the campaign, but the Jaguars cannot afford to lollygag moving forward.
The “Meh”
Denver’s Duality
For the Mile High City, it’s a tale of two extremes; a stingy defense and a stagnant offense. For the former, the Broncos’ defense stands at the top 3 in fewest points allowed per game, fewest overall yards allowed per game, and fewest passing yards allowed per game. Their offense, on the other hand, sits among the bottom ten in points scored per game, overall yards per game, and passing yards per game. Head coach, Sean Payton, will not win many games in Denver if his offense cannot relieve the defense in important games.
