At this point in the season, the NFL world has witnessed more or less who has a better outlook on 2024 and who doesn’t. Some franchises have found themselves remaining or arriving in the “win” column, while others have begun to spiral downward. Although 14-15 weeks of football still remain, the latter need to act quickly to save their season(s).
Here are some of the good, the bad, and the palatable moments from Week Three of the regular season.
NFL Week 3 Review
The Good
Josh Allen’s Hot Start
The Buffalo Bills’ signal-caller has had a bad turnover problem over the years, throwing 10 or more interceptions in his last four seasons. But now, it seems that Josh Allen has found the formula for minimizing costly mistakes. Plus, he currently leads the league in QBR with a draw-dropping 92.6/100 after three games. While many fans and critics anticipate a career year for #17, Allen should not let this new-found success get to his head.
Malik Willis Takes Over
Many Packers fans were concerned with starting quarterback, Jordan Love, getting injured in their season opener against Philadelphia. But backup, Malik Willis, put the cap back over the “panic button” in the last two weeks. Under Matt LaFleur’s guidance, Willis has made defenses pay with both his arm and his legs. Two games may be a small sample size for analyzing how good he can be. But in the meantime, LaFleur and Willis will certainly create more ways to keep their opponents on their heels.
The Bad
“Burrow” -ing Through Misery
Good News, Cincinnati Bengals Fans! Joe Burrow is back and lighting up defenses without throwing one interception. Bad news? Cincinnati is 0-3. The latest batch of woes for the Bengals came from losing in a shootout to Jayden Daniels, another Heisman Trophy winner from LSU, and the Washington Commanders. It doesn’t help that the Bengals have one of the worst rush defenses in the league right now. More will be required from Burrow and the rest of the team if they want to end this cold spell.
Will Levis Keep His Job?
Head coach, Brian Callahan, has had a rough start to his tenure with Tennessee, to say the least. The former offensive coordinator of the Bengals seemed like the right guy to develop quarterback Will Levis into a future star quarterback. But the former Kentucky Wildcat has turned the ball eight times in three games. For context, Levis has played 1/3 of the games he did last season and has already thrown more interceptions in 2024. Sometimes, things need to get worse before they get better.
The “Meh”
Carolina Dreamin’
Carolina has seen an improvement in attitude after their 36-22 victory over Las Vegas. The decision to start Andy Dalton in favor of Bryce Young seems to be paying, with a lights-out performance by the former. But Carolina should not rest on their laurels just yet. They still sit at 1-2 in a division full of teams who have made offseason improvements. It only gets tougher for Carolina from here on out.
Like a Good ‘Nabers‘, Malik is There
Two LSU alumni are favored to win “NFL Rookie of the Year” for 2024: Daniels of Washington, and Malik Nabers of the New York Giants. Nabers is off to an explosive start to his NFL career, breaking rookie records after just three games. That being said, the rest of the G-Men still leave a lot to be desired. The offense averages a pedestrian 15.0 points per game and only 294.7 total yards per game. Nabers cannot carry New York’s offense like this for very long.
