The Miami Dolphins are tanking in 2019 and everyone knows it. They’re clearly the worst team in football and it’s becoming more evident every Sunday. After losing a close game two weeks ago to the Washington Redskins, the game came down to a failed two-point conversion. The Dolphins ran a quick screen pass on the goal line and the pass was dropped. The clock struck zero and the game was over. Dolphins players walked off the field in defeat. Let’s not get to discouraged here folks, they actually needed to lose this game. If the Miami Dolphins rebuild plan starts with the “Tank for Tua” campaign, they’ll need to lose as many games as possible this year.
With the Cincinnati Bengals also winless in 2019, the fight for the number one overall draft selection could be settled in Week 15 when the two teams finally meet. So how exactly can Miami begin to fix its organization? Let the Miami Dolphins rebuild begin.
The Miami Dolphins Rebuild Starts Now
Draft Tua Tagovailoa
The first order of business for this organization is drafting the best signal-caller that the 2020 NFL Draft has to offer. Tua Tagovailoa has all the tools and talent that any team would want their quarterback to have. The current quarterback situation they’re dealing with is clearly not going to take this team anywhere. If this team wants any shot at relevancy again they must find themselves a franchise quarterback.
Build the Offensive Line
After trading their promising left tackle Laremy Tunsil to the Houston Texans, this offensive line is incredibly weak. I know what fans are thinking, why trade your cornerstone piece away to draft another one? Well, that’s how tanking works, teams trade their assets away to accumulate draft picks. There’s no way the Dolphins will draft a quarterback and proceed to throw him out there with no protection. There will be many top offensive linemen available to their disposal. Go out and find a guy who can keep your young quarterback upright.
Add weapons on offense
Now that you have your franchise quarterback and new offensive lineman, it is time to find an elite offensive weapon to make your Quarterback’s job easier. In my opinion, Miami can go in two directions here. Option one would be drafting a top tier wide receiver. Someone like Jerry Jeudy or CeeDee Lamb. Option two would be to draft a running back. The level of play at the running back position for Miami has been subpar and it’s time for someone to come in and take over the lead back duties. Once again the Dolphins find themselves in a great position. The 2020 running back class has the chance to rival 2017 running back class as the best ever. This class is loaded. Although wide receiver would probably be the smartest choice here, it will depend on who is available once Miami is on the clock.
Final Take
In order for this rebuild to work, they must hit on all of their first-round picks. With the players that were shipped out to obtain these draft picks, it is very important that they spend a great deal of time scouting to find the players that fit their team needs. The opportunity to turn this organization around is here, but it’s up to them go seize the moment and get it done.
