The Green Bay Packers Should Trade For Mohamed Sanu

The Green Bay Packers are off to a fantastic start to the season. They sit at 5-1 and on top of the NFC North. In week five, Davante Adams left the game against the Philadelphia Eagles with what was later confirmed as turf toe. He was out against the Dallas Cowboys a week later, out against the Detroit Lions last Monday and now he’s out against the Oakland Raiders on Sunday. Adams said he’s feeling a lot better and might be able to play week eight against the Kansas City Chiefs. Aside from Adams, Aaron Rodgers has a lot of young and inexperienced receivers to throw to. Mohamed Sanu would be a perfect fit for the Packers and he would easily be one of the top options for Rodgers to throw to. Of course, the fans want this to happen but does the front office?

The Packers Should Trade For Mohamed Sanu

The Packers Have Reciever Issues

Green Bay, reportedly, was one of the teams to call the Atlanta Falcons about Sanu. They need another wide receiver with Davante’s injury and with them having a lot of young players. Even if Adams comes back they still have a lot of other young guys that aren’t getting the job done. Marquez Valdes-Scantling looks like the only other receiver that has done a good job this season. In his first extended playing time, Allen Lazard came in and balled out. He caught four balls for 65 yards and a huge touchdown. Rodgers likes him but they don’t know enough to depend on him or put him up there in big situations.

There were so many dropped passes throughout the season, especially against the Lions last Monday. Many had high hopes for Geronimo Allison coming into the season as the number two receiver but he is nowhere close. Allison has dropped a few passes this year, especially in big situations. Many liked Darrius Shepard but with his antics on Monday, he might be public enemy number one among fans. Jake Kumerow is a fan favorite and Rodgers liked him out of camp but he isn’t a top guy whatsoever. Tight End Jimmy Graham isn’t himself anymore. He can’t catch the ball or go up to contest for a ball anymore. These receivers aren’t up to the task but Sanu would be.

Mohamed Sanu’s Stats

Last season, Sanu had 66 receptions for 838 yards and four touchdowns. So far this season, he had 29 receptions for 281 yards and a touchdown. His career as a whole has been very solid as he caught 367 balls for 4,297 yards and 25 touchdowns. The Packers would love to have that production as one of their top receivers. His route running is effective and he can go up and get a ball. He would certainly give the Packers a new look but a good look nonetheless. He was an important part of that Falcons offense during their playoff runs, including the Super Bowl run in the 2016 season. The Falcons offense hasn’t been the same the past couple of years. The offense is still good but not where they need to be. If Sanu’s numbers are good in a struggling offense, what do you think he would do with Aaron Rodgers? They are 1-4 on the season and likely would trade assets off and Sanu would be one.

The Final Drive

Trading for Mohamed Sanu wouldn’t cost much at all. He is under contract through the end of the 2020 season which makes him an even more valuable target for the Packers. A receiver should be the number thing on the Packers’ mind at the trade deadline and targeting Sanu would probably be their best bet. The Packers offense has seemed to be getting better when healthy so adding Sanu would make this offense more explosive and dynamic.
