I’m digging deep to find week eight NFL DFS under the radar plays to take down that GPP (guaranteed prize pool) tournament. There are six games with decent implied totals of mid-forties to the very stackable Oakland Raiders at Houston Texans at 51 over/under. Ownership will be concentrated with big, home favorites L.A. Rams and the Seattle Seahawks going up against the Cincinnati Bengals and Atlanta Falcons respectively. Additionally, in what could be a shoot-out, are the Detroit Lions hosting the New York Giants. Saquon Barkley will be popular against, a now susceptible, Lions run defense. Conversely, Matthew Stafford threw four touchdowns against a strong Minnesota Vikings defense. Where is this week’s gem? Let’s dive into week eight NFL DFS under the radar plays.

Week Eight NFL DFS: Under the Radar Plays
Quarterback: Ryan Tannehill $5,100
Tannehill, in week seven, was extremely efficient throwing 23 for 29 passes and over 300 yards for 20 fantasy points. I first thought recency bias might put DFS players back on Tannehill and his cheap price tag could make it so. However, the Giants-Lions game might draw players away from Tannehill. If that’s the case I really like Tannehill. Although there is always a strong chance Tannehill implodes. The Tennesee Titans face a Tampa Bay Buccaneers team that has top-rated rushing defense. However, they are a bottom-ten pass defense and he isn’t afraid to go downfield to Corey Davis and A.J. Brown. In other words, the opposite of what Marcus Mariota offered to the passing game.
Week seven pick: Jacoby Brissett 31.64 fantasy points. Outcome: BOOM!
Running Back: Tevin Coleman $5,000
The Carolina Panthers visit the San Francisco 49ers bringing the first overall pass rush. The way to beat a strong rush is to pass over it. And, Coleman would be the beneficiary of such a game plan. This is a spot I really like Coleman. Jimmy Garoppolo is proving to be a game manager and the 49ers are content to run and beat teams with their defense. The newly acquired Emmanuel Sanders should draw the defense to him, creating lanes for both Coleman and Matt Breida. Based on DraftKings PPR (point per reception) format Coleman is a strong play.
Week seven pick: Joe Mixon 7.4 fantasy points. Outcome: BUST!
Wide Receiver: Robby Anderson $4,900
The Jacksonville Jaguars give up the sixth-most passing yards in the NFL. A.J. Bouye will be in the slot covering Jamison Crowder, which should leave Anderson to run free down the sideline. And what do we know about the history of Anderson? It’s that he begins to really show out in the second half of the season. Thank you, Jalen Ramsey, for leaving this spot open. Additionally, Anderson has received eight targets in back to back weeks with the return of Sam Darnold. Las Vegas has the game at a low 41.5 implied total with the Jags being a five and a half point, home favorite over the New York Jets. I think this game has sneaky shoot-out potential. Darnold could be looking Anderson’s way plenty in this game.
Week seven pick: Mohamed Sanu 1.3 fantasy points. Outcome: BUST!
Tight End: Jonnu Smith $2,800
The Buccaneers are the second-worst team against the tight end position. Delanie Walker out with injury paves the way for Smith. Smith brought in three of three targets, from Tannehill, for 64 yards against the Los Angeles Chargers. He’s extremely athletic and has flashed at times. The question is and has been can he be consistent? Tannehill could look for the big target in the red zone. Smith could be considered one of the best value plays of week eight NFL DFS.
Week seven pick: Darren Fells 4.7 fantasy points. Outcome: Bust!
Defense: Tampa Bay Buccaneers $2,500
I usually don’t roster a road “underdog”, the Titans are giving two and a half points. However, the Titans have given up the second-most sacks in the league. Tannehill was sacked twice and intercepted once last week against the Chargers. Las Vegas has given this game a decent total of 45. That implies that there should be more passing than usual in this game. We know Jameis Winston and the Buccaneers like to air it. The Buccaneers could force Tannehill to throw more than the Titans like. This could be a nice spot for the Bucs defense. Also, keep in mind that the Tampa rush defense is tops in the league. They have only allowed, on average, 45 rushing yards per game. I like Shaquil Barrett to add to his sack total in this game.
Under the Radar
Remember, these plays are not a core group of players for a roster. They are meant for your consideration as you look to find value in building your line-ups. The NFL is nearly half-way through the season. We want to target players that are going against teams that are struggling and have seemingly lost heart. Conversely, we want to roster players that are out to prove something. If you can pivot at the right spot GPP glory could be yours. It takes just one!
