Teams With the Most NBA Championships
If we look into NBA history, it goes back to 1946. Since then, only two teams have won the NBA championship more than fifteen times. It’s a tie between Boston Celtics and Los Angeles Lakers with 17 championships each, followed by Chicago Bulls and Golden State Warriors with six titles each.
Los Angeles Lakers
The Los Angeles Lakers have won 17 NBA championships after beating the Miami Heat with 106-93 in 2020. It matches the 17 titles held by the Boston Celtics. It means out of the 73 NBA championship games, 34 have been won by the Lakers and the Celtics.
Before becoming the Los Angeles Lakers, their name was Minneapolis Lakers, and they won five NBA championship titles.
Magic Johnson and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar led the Los Angeles Lakers to win five NBA titles in 1980, 1982, 1985, 1987, and 1988.

Boston Celtics
The Boston Celtics began their legacy with Bill Russell, a Celtics center, from 1956 to 1964. He won 11 championships, including two as a player-coach with the Celtics.
Russell also holds the record for the most NBA Championships won between 1957-1969. One of the greatest achievements of the Celtics is winning eight straight championships with Russell from 1959 to 1966.
Chicago Bulls
Despite winning fewer titles than the Celtics and Lakers, the Chicago Bulls have had an indelible impact on sports history. Michael Jordan was a leading player for the Bulls in the 1990s and dominated the sports and the fame culture and is considered to be the father of sports stardom.
With Phil Jackson as the head coach and players like Scottie Pippen, Dennis Rodman, and Steve Kerr in the lineup, it was easy for the team to become a basketball powerhouse. 1998 marked the Bulls’ sixth NBA title, making them one of the sports’ greatest teams.
Golden State Warriors
For some time, the team was known as the Philadelphia Warriors. After which, their name changed to San Francisco Warriors, and then from 1971 to this day, they are referred to as the Golden State Warriors.
Their record of six NBA titles since 1947 includes 1956, 1975, 2015, 2017, and their most recent win in 2018. Looking at their record, the most famous period of their history was probably the Wilt Chamberlain period.
Because of their recent success, there has been a debate if there is a comparison between the Golden State Warriors era from 2015 to 2018 and the Michael Jordan era of the Chicago Bulls.

Winning 11 titles during the Celtics’ golden era, Bill Russell is at the top of the list with the most championship rings of any player. Russell is the only player on this list who was on all those championship squads, but the top spots are dominated by Celtics players from that era.
The only players who have won championships with three different teams are LeBron James, Danny Green, Robert Horry, and John Salley. LeBron is also the only NBA player to win MVP awards with three different teams.

I am biased towards the Celtics, but, what, 11 of their titles came where there were 8 teams in the NBA? I’d take the Bulls in this one.
