Since the first NBA game in 1946, the sport has given rise to titans and dynasties of the game. Along this journey fans have witnessed the rise and fall of numerous teams, each contributing uniquely to the rollercoaster journey of pure euphoria that comes along each play-off. There is no other measure of success in the sport than the number of trophies a franchise has won cumulatively through the years. We have witnessed the Celtics win the 2024 NBA Finals Championship now let us have a look at the top five most successful franchises in NBA history.

The Boston Celtics hold the record as the most decorated franchise in the NBA standing atop an unrivaled legacy of success. Since its Founding year in 1946, the Celtics have won a record 18 NBA championships,  including the famous stretch of 11 titles in 13 seasons from 1957 to 1969. Led by a star-studded lineup of legends like Bill Russell, Larry Bird, and Paul Pierce, recently they are head over heels celebrating winning their 18th title after beating the Dallas Mavericks 4-1 in the final series. Celtics are a true NBA dynasty.

2. Los Angeles Lakers

The Los Angeles Lakers prove they are also a hoops dynasty boasting a formidable 17 NBA championships in hot pursuit of the Celtics for the most titles in league history. Ever since its establishment in 1947, the Lakers’ have successfully won the championship in multiple eras, from the dominance of George Mikan in the 1950s to Magic Johnson, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Shaquille O’Neal, Kobe Bryant, and the most recent title in 2020 with LeBron James.
