Top Performers From Opening Week of MLB Season

The first week of the MLB season has come to a close. Here are some of the top performers at each position.

Top Performers From Opening Week of MLB Season

C : J.T. Realmunto, MIA

Realmunto has started the 2017 season red hot. After hitting .303 last season he has started out this season hitting .500. He has four extra base hits in four games and has driven in six runs. For the Marlins to make some noise this season, they could use a big season from their young catcher.

1B : Mark Reynolds, COL

Everyone in Colorado panicked when Ian Desmond went down with a hand injury. His replacement, Mark Reynolds, has done an excellent job filling in his void thus far. Through six games, Reynolds is hitting .409 with three doubles and three homers and has driven in eight runs.

2B : Roughned Odor, TEX

Odor has gotten off to a red hot start offensively in 2017. He is hitting .389 with four extra base hits (three homers) and has driven in six runs. The strikeouts however, have been up, as he has struck out six times.

3B : Chase Headley, NYY

Headley has been one of the only members of the Yankees who is actually hitting the ball. Through five games, he is hitting .412 with a homer and a double and has driven in two runs. Healey was very disappointing for the Yankees last season, he is off to a red hot start to 2017.

SS : Francisco Lindor, CLE

Lindor has had a huge Opening Week this season. He has had his defensive struggles at times, however he has made up for it with his bat. Lindor is hitting .316 with four extra base hits. Three of those extra base hits have been home runs, and he has driven in seven runs, four of those coming off a game winning grand slam.

OF : Matt Kemp, ATL

Kemp was a pain in the New York Mets sides all Opening series. He doubled four times and hit two homers. This shouldn’t come as a shock however, as last season Kemp did hit 35 homers and 39 doubles. If the veteran outfielder could keep this going, he could take a ton of pressure off the shoulders of Freddie Freeman at the plate.

DH : Carlos Santana, CLE

Santana has played a big role in Cleveland’s red hot start to the season. He is hitting .333 and four of his seven hits have gone for extra bases, including one home run. Santana has driven in six runs and has walked three times.

SP : Noah Syndergaard, NYM

Syndergaard made his first two starts of the season this week and was dominant in both outings. On Opening Day he shutout the Braves over six innings and struck out seven. Sunday night he allowed two runs, one earned, and struck out nine Marlins hitters. Syndergaard has looked strong on the beginning of his quest for his first NL Cy Young.

RP : Greg Holland, COL

Holland was a huge risk signing for the Rockies, and thus far the have gotten a high reward. Holland has appeared in four games and has converted four saves in four opportunities. He is also still yet to allow a hit and a run, and has struck out six and walked only one.
