Top Five Buffalo Bills

Top Five Buffalo Bills for the 2020 Season

The Buffalo Bills are one of the fascinating teams heading into the 2020 NFL season. With the recent departure of Tom Brady, the AFC East is as wide open as ever, and the Bills are the betting favorite to win the division by experts and fans all across the country. Led by general manager Brandon Beane, the Bills had one of the most productive offseasons in the NFL. It culminated in adding Stefon Diggs, a true number-one wide receiver to bolster the passing game.

Along with this, the Bills made various other acquisitions such as A.J. Klein, Quinton Jefferson, and Mario Addison to add to a defense that was already top five in the NFL last season. Next season is a make or break year for the Bills to become one of the elite teams. They can prove to the rest of the league and fans across the country that they are a real contender. Here are my top five Buffalo Bills that will help lead the team to success next season.

Top Five Buffalo Bills for the 2020 Season.

5. Devin Singletary

Heading into his sophomore season in the NFL, running back Devin Singletary will look to build off a strong 2019 campaign that saw him rush for over 700 yards while averaging five per carry. After playing behind long-time veteran Frank Gore for most of last season, Singletary will be the lead back heading into next season in a revamped Buffalo backfield alongside rookie Zack Moss. They will need to keep the same production next season to help out young quarterback Josh Allen and the Bills offense. Bills offensive coordinator Brian Daboll prides himself on having a strong running attack to open up the passing game. This allows for larger chunk plays. This is why Singletary is one of the key contributors to the Bills offense.

4. Ed Oliver

Looking to build off a strong end to last season, defensive tackle Ed Oliver is a crucial piece if the Bills defense is going to remain among the elite in the NFL next season. After an up and down start to the first half of his rookie season, Oliver was benched by head coach Sean Mcdermott in week nine against the Washington Redskins in favor of fellow defensive tackle Jordan Phillips. However, Oliver played much better in the second half of the season and broke out on thanksgiving day against the Dallas Cowboys by recording two sacks and a forced fumble in a Bills victory. Overall, he finished the season with 43 tackles and five sacks. Oliver will look to have a breakout second season in the NFL as a leader on the Bills defense.

3. Tre’Davious White

Already seen by many as a top-three player at his position, Tre’Davious White has quickly become of the best defensive players in football over his short time in the NFL. Last season was a breakout campaign for White. He recorded six interceptions, 17 passes defended, and the second-lowest quarterback passer rating allowed in the league. This standout campaign earned White a vote in the defensive player of the year voting that was ultimately won by New England Patriots cornerback Stephon Gilmore. Heading into his fourth year in the league, White is already a top shutdown corner in the NFL. He will look to continue his play and lockdown one side of the field for the Bills defense.

2. Stefon Diggs

After being traded to the Bills in March, the expectations are sky high for wide receiver Stefon Diggs in Buffalo next season. The Bills have been searching for a true number-one wide receiver for a long time with names like Steve Johnson, Sammy Watkins, and others trying to fit the role. Diggs had a strong season in 2019 with the Minnesota Vikings, catching 63 passes for over 1,100 yards and six touchdowns but became increasingly frustrated with his role in the offense and with quarterback Kirk Cousins.

Ultimately, he ended up in Buffalo and will look to be the deep ball threat that has evaded the Bills the past few seasons to help open up the Bills passing game for young quarterback Josh Allen. Thought of by many as one of the top wide receiving cores in football featuring names like John Brown and Cole Beasley, Diggs will need to lead the Bills pass catchers next season for the offense to have any success.

1. Josh Allen

Easily the most important player on the entire team, 2020, is a make or break year for Josh Allen. With many offseason additions, the expectations surrounding the top five Buffalo Bills are sky-high heading into next season, with many picking them as the betting favorites to win the AFC East following the departure of Tom Brady from New England. After a strong 2019 season that saw him throw for 3,000 yards and 20 touchdowns, Allen will need to cut down on one major category: turnovers.

A combined twenty-one interceptions and twenty-two fumbles over his first few seasons have plagued Allen and the Bills offense. Carelessness with the football will need to improve for the Bills to take the next step among the elite in the NFL next season. Ultimately, the Bills will go as far as their young quarterback takes them next season. That makes Allen the most important player on the Bills.
