Let’s get ready to rumble, the NBA season is fast approaching and the city of Los Angeles will be hosting two juggernauts ready to battle it out for supremacy. No, I’m not talking about Godzilla Verus King Kong I’m talking about the Los Angeles Lakers against the Los Angeles Clippers.
The Battle For Los Angeles Wages On
A Lopsided History
For years, the Lakers have had the upper hand over the Clippers in just about everything you can imagine. Out of the 220 total head to head matchups the Lakers and Clippers have had, the Lakers have won an outstanding 148 times to the Clippers 72 wins. For those of you that aren’t too keen on math, the Lakers have won 67% of the time compared the Clippers measly 33%. That’s a fairly dominant and impressive record if you ask me. Not to mention the Lakers 16 championships to the Clippers zero.
Granted the Lakers have been fairly fortunate to have the star power that they have had. From Magic Johnson and Kareen Abdul-Jabbar to Kobe Bryant and Shaquille O’Neal, the list goes on. The Clippers, on the other hand, haven’t had much luck in that department. It wasn’t until the acquisition of Chris Paul to team up with Blake Griffin and DeAndre Jordan that things seemed to turn around for them.
Little Brother Gains Momentum
It wasn’t until about the 2012-2013 season that the Clippers really seemed to gain momentum in beating the Lakers. The Clippers had swept the season series that year and seemed like they were poised to come out on top. As the season went on the Clippers would continue to gain wins against the Lakers. Many began to think that what was known as “Laker Town” was quickly turning into Clipper City. The Clippers even dubbed themselves “Lob City” to help boost popularity and further pull them away from the Lakers shadow. The Lakers managed to get a win on early that season. But after that, the Clippers would go on an impressive 11 game win streak against the Lakers. The Lakers would finally gain a win on Christmas Day in 2016. But by that point, many had dubbed the Clippers the top dogs in LA.
Locked And Loaded And Ready To Go
This past offseason proved to be beneficial for both teams. The Lakers pulled off a blockbuster deal to acquire superstar Anthony Davis from the New Orlean Pelicans to team up with Lebron James. As well as the Clippers winning out in the Kawhi Leonard sweepstakes, while also constructing a trade with the Oklahoma City Thunder to get Paul George. Both teams went on to fill out their rosters accordingly. Some GM’s and analyst have the Clippers winning it all. While some say Lebron is on a mission and won’t be stopped and by following the new trend in the NBA by having superstar duos the Lakers and Clippers seem ready to continue the ongoing saga once again.
Many will claim unless the Clippers manage to win 17 championships it will always be a Laker town. Some may say the Lakers have failed to be relevant in the past 6 years while the Clippers were able to come out on top, so the Clippers hold the edge. Regardless of what you may think or feel one thing is clear; the battle for LA wages on and sparks are going to fly.
