The AFC’s Super Bowl Underdogs

Enough time has passed in the NFL season so that elite teams in each conference have begun to reveal themselves. For the NFC, things remain somewhat normal. The 49ers, Seahawks, Packers, and Vikings all seem to have found a rhythm that works for them. All four of those teams should have a legit shot at the super bowl. The AFC super bowl contenders remain somewhat mixed up. Both the Patriots and Chiefs lead the pack in the AFC but after an injury to star quarterback Patrick Mahomes, Kansas City’s future may be in jeopardy. Ignoring the Patriots and Chiefs for a moment, these two AFC super bowl underdogs have a legit shot at upsetting one of them. Place a bet on these teams to win the super bowl to win some serious cash on MobileBet and bragging rights when they upset an AFC elite.

AFC Super Bowl Underdogs

Buffalo Bills

This Buffalo team should scare Tom Brady and the Patriots far more than Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs. The Patriots struggled to maintain any sort of offensive rhythm against them in week four, holding them to just 224 total yards. However, I’m not so sure this would be the same outcome next time around. Josh Allen has proven to be a sustainable quarterback for this team. Their defense comes in at one of the top in the league. Although their wide receiving core and running back core are nothing to get excited about, they have enough on the defensive end to make up for it. This stout defensive team was able to slow down Tom Brady back in September and I think they could do the same thing to a banged-up Chiefs squad. They are certainly underdogs but are a team to definitely keep an eye on.

Baltimore Ravens

The Baltimore Ravens were nothing to fear before week one. That quickly changed once Lamar Jackson found his rhythm. He’s acquired over 1500 scrimmage yards already this season and looks to be one of the next bright stars in this league. In addition, Mark Ingram is finally getting his chance to shine again after looming in the shadows of Alvin Kamara these past couple of years.

Although Jackson has slowed down since his hot start to the year, he still continues to look far more developed and aware dating back to late last season. Their passing and rushing attacks are both second to none in the league, but it’s the instability of their defense that makes people question their chances. They’ve got one of the better cornerbacks in the league in Marlon Humphries, so I expect them to be able to sustain at least a decent defense to slow down the AFC powerhouses. Baltimore should be viewed as a true AFC super bowl underdog.

Could It Happen?

The New England Patriots have been dominating the AFC for nearly two decades now. The Kansas City Chiefs have just recently emerged as top contenders as well, looking to knock off New England and start their own reign. It’ll take a lot to knock either one of these teams off. But, both of these AFC super bowl underdogs have what it takes.

The Bills have an elite defense that can slow down any offense in the NFL. They not only have a capable quarterback, but they have a mobile one as well which New England has struggled with in the past.

The Ravens have an extremely volatile offense, but one that works more than it duds. Matching up with a subpar defense like the Chiefs may be their key to a super bowl trip this year. Would I be surprised to see the Patriots or Chiefs knocked off this year? Definitely. But do the Bills and Ravens have what it takes to do so? You bet they do.
