Like many other conferences, the Big 12 has been exciting this season. Every season, players stand out for their superb performances, and those performances will have a huge impact on Big 12 seeding. This season has also seen many players who have surprised the college football world and led their teams to victories.
5 Big 12 Football Standouts
Brendan Mott
Brendan Mott has stood out for his consistent performances for the Kanas State Wildcats. Mott has managed to rack up seven sacks, which leads the Big 12. Mott has also been the reason why the Wildcats rank second in sacks and why the Wildcats are ranked first in the Big 12 in rushing yards allowed.
Not surprisingly, along with good offensive performance, the Wildcats have found themselves with a good 6-1 overall record and ranked number 16 team in the country. Mott remains one of the main reasons the Wildcats stay in the hunt (see what I did there?) for the Big 12 championship.
RJ Harvey
The UCF Knights do not have much to be excited about- at all. The exception is RJ Harvey, who remains one of the country’s best running backs. With 133 carries for 890 yards and 11 touchdowns, Harvey has been a good note for a 3-4 UCF team. UCF has lost four games in a row, but not thanks to Harvey. In fact, in the latest game, Harvey managed to rack up 196 yards and two touchdowns in 25 carries.
The Knights may have wasted such a performance, but Harvey continues to shine and stand out.
Brendan Sorsby
Brendan Sorsby and the Cincinnati Bearcats have surprised many with their ability to win games this season. In all games this season, the Bearcats have competed and nearly won. One of the many things keeping the Bearcat in a good light is Sorsby. Brendan Sorsby originally came from the Indiana Hoosiers, where he did well but transferred. This season, Sorsby ranks 15th in the county in QBR and has a high 67.2% completion percentage.
Sorsby has also racked up 13 TDs and 1,928 yards. This season has been a career year for Sorsby, who seeks to continue to shine in his essential rule.
Shedeur Sanders
Shedeur Sanders and Colorado started the season with an ugly win over North Dakota before being murdered by the Nebraska Cornhuskers. However, the Buffaloes have managed a 4-1 record since and have made a pleasing appearance in every game since they visited Lincoln. Despite Sanders’ 4 interceptions in his last three games, Sanders is still seen as one of the best players in college football by bettors looking at CFP Odds.
Rightly so, Sanders is seen as an outstanding quarterback. Of course, Sanders must fix specific issues, but there is no doubt that Sanders shines. His 19 TD passes and 2,268 yards have led many to believe this. Sanders is more than a standout; he is outstanding.
Josh Hoover
No one in the Big 12 has been as surprising as Josh Hoover. Josh Hoover did not have a great season in 2023, but has rebounded significantly in 2024. Hoover leads the Big 12 with 2,270 yards and has thrown 16 TD’s. Although he has also thrown six interceptions, Hoover still ranks 24th in QBR and has a high 66.4 completion percentage. The TCU Horned Frogs have not delivered much this season with a mediocre record. But thanks to Hoover, there are at least some bright spots. He has been more than a standout—he’s been the definition of outstanding.
The Big 12 has seen a good number of standouts this season. Their effect on their team and themselves is excellent. But the end of the season is, at times, more important than the beginning of it. These standouts must continue.
