5. Franklyn Kilome, RHP
The Phillies signed Franklyn Kilome back in 2013. At 6’6”, Kilome is big bodied and throws hard. His fastball sits from 98-99 mph. His curveball has developed, and he shows confidence in it. Kilo has a decent feel for his changeup, though it can develop into an average third pitch. The biggest issue he faces is his command, as he tends to lose control on the mound. His stock is going up, and his ceiling is as high as any pitchers in the system.
4. Nick Williams, OF
Nick Williams was traded to the Phillies as a part of the Cole Hamels trade. He was the Rangers second round pick in 2012. Williams has the ability to drive the ball to all fields. Williams also has some above average speed making him a threat on the base paths. Defensively, Williams plays all three outfield positions averagely. Despite struggling in his first full season in the Phillies system, Williams will be a part of the Phillies outfield in the future.
3. Jorge Alfaro, C
The Phillies acquired Jorge Alfaro in 2015 from the Texas Rangers. He is the third best catching prospect in all of baseball. Alfaro has always shown to be a very powerful guy on both sides of the ball. He has a rocket for an arm behind the plate, and his very powerful with the bat. However, there is still some work do be done with his plate discipline as he struck out 105 times last season. Alfaro has improved so much defensively, he is being considered the catcher of the future in Philadelphia.
2. Mickey Moniak, OF
Mickey Moniak was the first overall pick in the 2016 draft. In his pro debut. he hit .284 with a home run, 11 doubles, 4 triples, and 28 RBI’s in 176 Gulf Coast League at-bats. Moniak can flat out rake, making consistently hard contact. As he progresses in his development, the power may come. For an 18 year old, Moniak is very advanced at the plate. Mickey runs the bases very well, with above average speed. He plays an excellent centerfield, where he has the ability to be an elite defender. His outstanding work ethic will help him live up to the hype of being the No.1 overall pick.
1. J.P. Crawford, SS
J.P. Crawford was the Phillies first round draft pick in the 2013 draft. He has a very advanced approach at the plate, getting on base often and striking out very few times. He makes a ton of contact, but does not hit for much power. Defensively, he has a tremendous arm, hands, and footwork. His average speed is made up for by his excellent range. Crawford has the ability to be an elite level talent at shortstop.
