Week two is quickly upon us after a very interesting week one. There were a lot of surprises both in a good way and a bad way. There are also a lot of questions yet to be answered. Many teams were just getting into season form for week one. In week two, look for better performances from many teams and players. There’s another good slate of games. Here are the five best games of NFL week two.
NFL Week Two Games to Watch
Eagles vs Falcons
These two teams have had some great battles over the past few years. The Philadelphia Eagles have won each of the past three meetings between the two teams. The Eagles had a rough first half in week one against the Washington Redskins but they bounced back in the second half. The Atlanta Falcons, on the other hand, didn’t look good at all in their game against the Minnesota Vikings.
This game will come down to who is better in this game, Matt Ryan or Carson Wentz? The Falcons have the advantage at home but the Eagles aren’t fazed by the dome. The Falcons can’t afford to go down 0-2 on the season. This will be a shootout in Atlanta.
Cowboys vs Redskins
Dak Prescott lit it up against the New York Giants, throwing for 405 yards and four touchdowns. Many question whether he is finally taking the next step but they also do recognize that it was against a bad defense. This week, he will be facing a good defense. Even though the Redskins gave up 32 to the Eagles, they showed in the first half that they can be a force.
The game will be played in Washington which will be tough for the Dallas Cowboys. Both teams will be playing their second divisional game in two weeks. It will be interesting to see if the Redskins can move the ball on offense and if Prescott and company can prove that last week wasn’t a fluke and tear into the Redskins defense.
Seahawks vs Steelers
Everybody circled this match-up on the calendar before the season as one of the best match-ups in week two. After week one, both teams need to step it up. The Pittsburgh Steelers looked horrible against the New England Patriots in Foxborough. Many picked them for the upset or to show people that they didn’t need Antonio Brown and Le’Veon Bell but maybe they do. They only managed to put up three points as the offense was just bad and the defense was not any better. They are going to have to come out in week two and ball out for people to trust them again.
On the other hand, the Seattle Seahawks did get a win but it wasn’t pretty. They faced the Cincinnati Bengals in Seattle and nearly got upset. They won 21-20. There was a questionable call at the end of that game that maybe saved the Seahawks but either way they have to be better. It will be tough for them to go into Pittsburgh and win but with the way week one went for both teams, who knows?
Vikings vs Packers
This will be a huge early divisional game. Both teams started with a win but in different ways. The Green Bay Packers had a few more days of rest coming off the 10-3 win on the first Thursday Night Football game against the Chicago Bears. The Vikings come off a 28-12 win at home against the Falcons.
Aaron Rodgers and the Packers offense didn’t look good at all in the first game. He missed a couple of throws and the offense as a whole didn’t explode as some would have thought under new head coach Matt LaFleur. On the other hand, the defense was outstanding. They only gave up three points and their new additions in free agency and the draft made a huge difference.
The Vikings, on the other hand, played well on offense but even better on defense. They got multiple points off of turnovers. Many wondered how running back Dalvin Cook would be coming back and he didn’t disappoint. On 21 attempts, he ran for 111 yards and two touchdowns. The Packers will have a tough test stopping Cook and getting past the defense but the Vikings will also have a tough test. Rodgers isn’t going anywhere and if this defense can do what they did last week, Kirk Cousins and this offense will have to depend on that defense.
Many questions will be answered for both teams, especially the Packers. We will see if the offense can adjust and if the defense is legit. All I know is, if the Vikings or any other team expect the Packers offense to play like they did last week for the rest of the season, they will be very disappointed.
Saints vs Rams
The number one game in week two and maybe the whole season will feature a rematch of last year’s NFC Championship game. No one has forgotten what happened at the end of the game but they both want to move on. I don’t think they will forget this week though. The New Orleans Saints go into L.A. looking for revenge for last year’s game.
The Los Angeles Rams know it was a missed call but still want people to know that they were still a dominant team. Both teams escaped last week with wins but it can’t be the same this week. Jared Goff wants to prove that he is worth every penny of that new 4-year, $134M deal. Drew Brees years are limited and he wants to go out with a bang. Both teams will be hungry and both teams have a chip on their shoulders. This game is a must-watch.
The Final Whistle
Week two is filled with some good games. Even though it’s only week two, there are also some important games. Many teams can’t afford to fall to 0-2. It’s early but going down 0-2 isn’t ideal at all. There are some other interesting games like Kyler Murray traveling up to face Lamar Jackson and an important AFC South match-up between the Jacksonville Jaguars and the Houston Texans. This week will be very interesting and it will give us an idea of what teams are.
