NBA Draft: Collin Sexton potential fits

1 : Orlando Magic

The Orlando Magic have been in search of a starting point guard for the past couple of seasons. They thought they had their guy in Elfrid Payton but he never reached his potential and the Magic ended up trading him to the Phoenix Suns midway through the season. Collin Sexton could be a great choice for the Magic with sixth overall pick. No matter what direction the Magic decide to go in next season with not much cap space and Aaron Gordon being a free agent. Sexton is still a great choice he could be the leader of the team and with his physical defense he could also set the tone of the defensive end. Collin Sexton could start from day one which will help him adapt to the NBA style and tempo. The Magic have an interesting choice with the sixth overall pick but Collin Sexton could be the guy of the future in Orlando.

2 : New York Knicks

The New York Knicks have a number of point guards on their roster for next season in Frank Ntilikina, Emmanuel Mudiay, and Trey Burke. The New York Knicks have been reported to be looking for a wing in the draft but also are going to go with the best talent on the board when they our on the clock. Sexton could be on the board when the New York Knicks make their selection and don’t be surprised if the Knicks select Sexton. Collin Sexton would be a perfect point guard for the Knicks in Madison Square Garden and under head coach David Fizdale who thrives with the defense. Having Sexton be the lead guard and bringing the energy and hustle on the defensive end night in and night out. The Knicks would follow his lead and pairing Sexton with Ntilikina could make for one of the best defensive backcourts in the league.

3 : Los Angeles Clippers

The Los Angeles Clippers traded away their franchise point guard Chris Paul last offseason to the Houston Rockets. The Clippers wanted to head in a different direction and the first step was trying to make a different team to try to make some noise in the playoffs. The Clippers already have Patrick Beverly, Austin Rivers, and Milos Teodosic. Patrick Beverly is aging and has been dealing with some injuries the past few seasons, Austin Rivers got his opportunity under his father Doc Rivers but has transitioned more towards the shooting guard position, and Milos came to the NBA last season after playing overseas but doesn’t look like starting point guard material. Collin Sexton could be the answer for the Clippers at the point guard position if he slips back to them at 12 or 13. Sexton brings some of the same qualities as Chris Paul with his ability to run a team, be a leader, play physical defense, create for himself and his teammates, and his shot making ability.

4 : Cleveland Cavaliers

The Cleveland Cavaliers traded away franchise point guard Kyrie Irving last offseason leaving a big hole at the point guard position. The Cavaliers got a return of Isaiah Thomas who was injured for the start of the season and the Cavaliers started Derrick Rose and Jose Calderon at the beginning of the year. The Cavaliers then gutted their roster and traded Thomas to acquire Jordan Clarkson and George Hill. Neither Hill or Clarkson have worked out for the Cavaliers leaving them still searching for a point guard. Collin Sexton could be an option at the eighth overall pick and could fit in nicely. Sexton could be the point guard that LeBron James needs if he decides to stay in Cleveland. Sexton can guard the opposing point guards and run an offense which could take some pressure off of James. Cleveland could wind up with Sexton and have their point guard of the future no matter what direction they are headed towards.
