The 2020 NFL Draft has come and gone but it’s never too early to look ahead to next year. Just like last year, there are two top talents at the quarterback position that can go in the top five of the 2021 NFL Draft. One of them can easily be the number one overall pick. There’s also an outstanding offensive lineman that’s held in high regards heading into next season. He’s got a very slim chance to go number one overall but he can be a high pick for a team looking for force up front.

Outside the top three, it’s a long shot that anyone is close to being the number one overall pick but that doesn’t mean that they won’t strive to be in the top five. As we look ahead to the college season and the 2021 NFL Draft, let’s take a look at the top five players with the best odds to go number one overall.

Trevor Lawrence (-300)

Trevor Lawrence might be the runaway candidate to be the number one overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft. The Clemson quarterback has all of the qualities to be great in the NFL. He has the height, athletic ability, and the poise to be a franchise quarterback. His rocket arm and decision making have been spectacular while in college. He hasn’t even started his junior season and everyone has been talking about being number one since he got the call his freshman year. Since taking over in 2018, he’s thrown for almost 7,000 yards and 66 touchdowns with only 12 interceptions. Lawrence has also led his team to two national championships while winning one of them. It would have to take a total drop-off for him to not be number one anymore but until then, he’s a lock to be the first pick in the 2021 NFL Draft.

Justin Fields (+300)

In his freshman year at Georgia, Justin Fields was not the number one quarterback in 2018. He took a back seat to Jake Fromm and only threw 39 passes. He transferred to Ohio State last season and became the starter. Fields had a great year as he threw for 3,273 yards and an incredible 41 touchdowns. He’s slated to have another great year for Ohio State and if he does, he might be closer to challenging Lawrence for that top spot than we think.

Penei Sewell (+400)

At 6-6, 325 pounds, Penei Sewell is the best offensive tackle in college football. While playing for Oregon, Sewell won the Outland Trophy as the top interior lineman in 2019. He’s had great technique which translates to only giving up one sack in two years. Sewell is great at extending his hips for power on both run and pass blocks. He’s already really good but he said he wants to get even better and that is a recipe for success and a high pick in the draft. In 2021, he sets out to prove that he is worthy of being taken in the top three.

D’Eriq King (+1600)

There’s almost no chance that D’Eriq King can outplay Fields and Lawrence for the number one spot but he has potential as the number three quarterback in his class. The dual-threat quarterback played at Houston from 2016-2019 and has since transferred to Miami. In four years at Houston, King has thrown for nearly 5,000 yards and has 50 touchdowns with just ten interceptions. He also ran for over 1,400 yards with 28 touchdowns. King only played in four games last season for Houston but he’ll get a fresh start in Miami in his campaign to become a top-three quarterback in the draft.

Micah Parsons (+2500)

As a top prospect in the 2021 NFL Draft, linebacker Micah Parsons is out to prove he can be a top-three pick. He started only one game for Penn State in 2018 but led the team in tackles. Parsons started last season and made the most of it. In 13 games, Parsons led the team in tackles yet again (109) and 14 tackles were for a loss. He also had five sacks, three pass deflections, and four forced fumbles. This was enough for him to be named the Big Ten Linebacker of the Year. He is poised for an even better year this season and he better if he wants to be near the top of the board.
