Week Two of the NFL season has come to a close. There were a lot of headlines that came out of Sunday’s action. First of all, the field goal kicking was atrocious just go ask the Browns and Vikings. As a result, they had to ax their kickers for missing crucial FG’s that would’ve tied or won the game. Vontae Davis inexplicably decided to retire at halftime with his teammates finding out on the sidelines. Consequently, the Twitter world and fans went crazy over Davis by saying he flat out quit on his team. Anyways, there was big time performances that stood out to me and it was who we already know about. Remember you have to win to get in, here are the top NFL Week 2 Performances.
Patrick Mahomes II (QB) – Kansas City Chiefs
Week Two stats: 21/28 passing, 417 yards, six touchdowns
The exciting gunslinger did something that has never been done in NFL history. He threw six TD’s against the vulnerable Steelers defense. Two of them were to Travis Kelce, one to Kareem Hunt, Tyreek Hill, Chris Conley and Demarcus Robinson. Furthermore, that meant that he has a record setting 10 touchdown passes in the first two games of the season. Most noteworthy, he broke the record previously held by Peyton Manning, Drew Brees and Charley Johnson with nine TD’s. It seems like this guy is on Madden Mode because it’s unreal what he’s doing. Mahomes will be a star no doubt the sky’s the limit for him.
Blake Bortles (QB) – Jacksonville Jaguars
Week Two stats: 29/45 passing, 377 yards, four touchdowns, one interception
The fifth year QB showed the football world that he can play well without Leonard Fournette. He came out the gates with an aggressive mindset. Bortles was slinging the football all over the field with confidence. He threw for almost 400 yards and four TD’s while taking apart the Patriots defense. If Bortles continues to play like this, Jacksonville will be hosting the AFC Championship Game and can win the Super Bowl.
Ryan Fitzpatrick (QB) – Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Week Two stats: 27/33 passing, 402 yards, four touchdowns, one interception
Fitz Magic picked up where he left off last week against the Saints. The defending Super Bowl champs came into town and he didn’t disappoint. In the first play off the game, he threw a 75 yard touchdown pass off a play action to ex-Eagle DeSean Jackson. Fitzpatrick threw for over 400 yards for the second straight week as he has the hot hand right now. He leads the league in passing yards in the first two games of the season with 819. Also, the gunslinger has a 151.5 passer rating. Looks like Jameis Winston will be holding a clipboard for awhile.
Todd Gurley III (RB) – Los Angeles Rams
Week Two stats: 19 carries for 42 yards and three touchdowns
The defending Offensive Player of the Year winner didn’t have a lot of yards but it wasn’t necessary. The Rams shutout the rebuilding Cardinals 34-0 in which their defense was dominant. Although, Gurley had a hat trick by scoring three touchdowns in which all of them where in the red zone. Additionally, he converted two 2-point conversions because kicker Greg Zuerlein hurt his groin. Gurley helped a lot of fantasy owners including myself with 32 fantasy points.
A.J. Green (WR) – Cincinnati Bengals
Week Two stats: five receptions, 69 yards, three touchdowns
Similarly, there was another that had a three touchdown day and that was from star wideout A.J. Green. He did it against a tough Ravens D. It was a division rivalry game between the two AFC North squads. The Bengals spoiled the Ravens playoff hopes in the regular season finale last year. The first TD came off a fake pitch and Andy Dalton threw to him in the back of the end zone. The next one was on a third and two when Dalton throws a quick slant against the blitz and Green took it 32 yards past the Baltimore secondary to the house. Lastly, the third one of the half came when Green came back to the pylon and his QB hit him.
