The number one seed in the NFC has come down to the last week of the regular season between four teams with 11 or more wins. Home field advantage is key in the playoffs, especially since these four teams have a big advantage when they play at home. All eyes will be on all of these games before but the game that can determine the whole seeding is the Sunday Night Football game between the 49ers and Seahawks.
A Battle For The Number One Seed In The NFC
Saints
The New Orleans Saints are currently the three seed in the NFC so they need a few things to go there way. They need to beat the Carolina Panthers but they also need the Packers and 49ers to lose or tie. It is nowhere near impossible but it would be challenging. The connection between Drew Brees and Michael Thomas is unbreakable right now so teams want to make sure that they stay a three seed.
Seahawks
The Seattle Seahawks are 11-4 and yet they are a five seed. They also need a few things to go their way. The Seahawks have to beat the 12-3 49ers but also need losses by both the Packers and Saints. They play this game at home where it’s difficult for the opposition to play, especially a game of this magnitude. The Seahawks signed Marshawn Lynch yet again after injuries to Rashaad Penny and Chris Carson. Lynch hasn’t played in a year so it will interesting to see if he is the beast mode we all know. They also have Russell Wilson and we know what he can do in big games like these.
Packers
The Green Bay Packers only need a couple of things to happen. They need to beat their division rival in the Detroit Lions but they also need the 49ers to lose or tie. With all the people doubting them as a legit contender, they have a chance to play every playoff game up until the Super Bowl at Lambeau. They won the NFC North last week against the Minnesota Vikings but as they said, the North is not enough. No one wants to play Aaron Rodgers and the Packers in unsettled weather and the bitter cold at Lambeau Field.
49ers
All the San Francisco 49ers have to do it win and they are the number one seed. It’s easy to say but they have to travel to Seattle, which is a tough place to play. If they lose, they could drop down to the number five seed with a record of 12-4. They have a lot of weapons on offense like George Kittle, Deebo Samuel, and Emmanuel Sanders. They also have a running back in Raheem Mostert who has stepped in and taken over. The defense has been great all year but over the past couple of games, the pass defense hasn’t looked like it should. No one wants to play a 13-3 team at home in the playoffs.
Fourth Down
The Seahawks could make a couple of teams happy if they knock off the 49ers. All of these teams have huge strengths whether it’s the quarterback or the defense. Also in the NFC, there is still one more playoff spot to be determined and that is either the Dallas Cowboys or the Philadelphia Eagles. Whoever wins that game, the team who ends up with the fifth seed will have to go on the road to Dallas or Philly. It will be a very interesting last week and it’s what we like to see.
