The Green Bay Packers are always looking for ways to improve their roster, and one position that could definitely be upgraded is the running back position, with Josh Jacobs out due to personal issues. Their running backs to rely on are MarShawn Lloyd, Chris Brooks, and Kaleb Johnson. So with the season continuing, adding other running backs would definitely help, for depth, and to add another weapon to the offense.
The Packers could target younger players, and watch them grow into a talented player on their offense, or target a veteran who could contribute immediately. There are several options available.
Running Backs the Packers Should Target
3. James Conner, Arizona Cardinals
The Arizona Cardinals have most of their depth at the running back position. Recently in the 2026 draft, they drafted Jeremiyah Love in the first round, third pick overall. They already had James Conner, a two-time Pro Bowler, and a running back that the Packers should target.
Conner is a veteran running back who could immediately contribute for the Packers. Conner has had two 1,000-yard years in his career. He only appeared in three games in 2025 because of a foot injury. If Conner were able to stay on the field without getting injured, he could definitely be a threat. The Cardinals could definitely trade him away since they have too many running backs, and good ones, like Trey Benson, and Tyler Allgeier.
2. Braelon Allen, New York Jets
Braelon Allen was drafted in 2024 in the fourth round by the New York Jets. Allen has never been the starter for the Jets, but if he were to be traded to the Packers he could definitely fight for the starting position. The most yards Allen rushed for in a year was when he was a rookie, and he rushed for 334 yards.
Allen is a vertical threat with speed and acceleration. Allen could definitely benefit the Packers. Allen is a talented young running back, sitting behind Breece Hall, and he probably wants to start, so if he were to go to the Packers, he could definitely fight for the starting job. Allen only appeared in four games last season due to an MCL injury. The Packers are definitely looking for some depth, and if Jacobs does not return then Allen would be the perfect fit.
1. Najee Harris, New York Giants
Najee Harris is another potential running back to trade for. Harris signed with the New York Giants, but they don’t really need him that much. That is where the Packers come in, as they will soon be looking to bring in a running back, and a veteran like Harris could definitely be the one.
Harris is definitely a great threat to many teams’ defenses. Harris showed what he could do when he was with the Pittsburgh Steelers, and if he could bring that form back, he could be a beast.
Harris rushed for 1,000 yards in four consecutive seasons at one point, and Harris is only 28 years old. If Harris is healthy he is definitely a candidate that the Packers should target.
