The league calendar is quickly moving along, and we’re closing in on training camps opening for all 32 teams. Then, shortly after, preseason. That means the last wave of free agency could soon be upon us and there are still some notable names out there on the market trying to find landing spots. One of those is wide receiver Stefon Diggs, who is one of the top remaining free agents available. If it wasn’t for his legal troubles this offseason, the 11-year veteran would’ve been signed to a team already.
On the football side of things, Diggs could help a lot of teams in more ways than one. Last season for the New England Patriots, Diggs played in all 17 games and tallied 1,013 yards with four touchdowns playing with second-year quarterback Drake Maye, helping them make a Super Bowl appearance.Â
Anyone looking to sign Diggs is adding a player who’s had a 1,000-yard campaign in his last seven of eight seasons (only played eight games in 2024) and someone who’s still a savvy route runner who can create separation. While he isn’t the player he used to be, he still can be a really good option to have for a team that needs a wide receiver. As he recently said, “You can’t name a No. 2 better than me.”
Best Potential Fits For Stefon Diggs
Baltimore Ravens
The Baltimore Ravens have been seen as Super Bowl favorites ever since Lamar Jackson took over under center in 2019. However, they’ve never gotten over the hump, making the AFC Championship Game only once in that time (2023) and ended up falling short.
Last season, they missed the playoffs for only the second time in the Jackson era after losing the season finale to their rival Pittsburgh Steelers. This sparked a big change, as the Ravens fired long-time head coach John Harbaugh. Former Los Angeles Chargers defensive coordinator Jesse Minter takes over an offense led by Jackson, Derrick Henry, and Zay Flowers. However, it seems for a few years now that Jackson needed something more in that wide receiver room next to Flowers, and Diggs would be the perfect piece to fill that role.
Flowers doesn’t have the best complement of wide receivers behind him. Rashod Bateman is their number two wideout, but aside from his career year of 756 yards and nine touchdowns in 2024, he’s never eclipsed 515 yards. Beyond Bateman, the Ravens have Devontez Walker and rookies Ja’Kobi Lane and Elijah Sarratt. This past season, even the once reliable Mark Andrews put up the fewest yards of his career (422), the worst yards per game output of his career (24.8) and the fewest receptions per game of his career since his rookie season (2.8).
Diggs would be a perfect fit for an offense looking to boost a passing game that ranked in the bottom half in yards last season.
Kansas City Chiefs
Going 6-11 last season was the Kansas City Chiefs’ worst record since 2012, when they went 2-14. They joined the Ravens as Super Bowl hopefuls to miss the playoffs in 2025. More concerning than that was the health of Patrick Mahomes, who tore his ACL and LCL late last season. With that, the Chiefs quarterback participated in portions of OTAs, and head coach Andy Reid said that Mahomes should be able to do some things in camp. His status for Week 1 is still up in the air, but with or without Mahomes to start the season, adding a receiver like Diggs will do wonders for this Chiefs’ offense.
Kansas City has its number one receiver in Rashee Rice, but he’s been known to get into trouble. If he ends up missing time because of that or his latest knee injury, Diggs can immediately step in and take over. If Rice can stay on the field, Diggs would be the perfect complementary piece, as both would have Mahomes throwing to them. There’s still a lot of upside to Xavier Worthy, but he hasn’t exactly exploded over his first two seasons. He would be a perfect third piece to the combo of Rice and Diggs. And while Travis Kelce is coming back, his role has diminished in the offense.
Mahomes is coming off his worst season yet as a starter, and like the Ravens offense, the Chiefs ranked in the bottom half in passing/total yards last season. The offense needs a jolt, and Diggs could provide that to a team that could jump right back in contention with the potential addition. The only problem that would halt a deal like this for Kansas City is cap space, as they only have just over $4M left to spend. If they’re serious about getting back into their championship window, they’d have to move around some money, unless Diggs takes a pay cut.Â
Washington Commanders
The best landing spot of the bunch for Diggs might be the Washington Commanders. Jayden Daniels is heading into his third season in the NFL, and he’s shown all the promise in the world. In his rookie season, Daniels threw for 3,568 yards and 25 touchdowns while also rushing for 891 yards and six touchdowns. He won the Rookie of the Year award while also taking the Commanders to the NFC Championship Game. In his three playoff games, Daniels threw for 822 yards and five touchdowns to only one interception.
Daniels was limited to only seven games last season due to injury, but now he is ready to go for the upcoming campaign and get back to what he was in 2024. With the upside Daniels has, adding Diggs to pair with Terry McLaurin would do wonders for the young quarterback’s progression.
Aside from McLaurin, the Commanders don’t have much to boast about in the receiver room, especially with the departure of Deebo Samuel. Washington’s number one wide receiver is also coming off the worst year of his career with an injury-riddled season. Having Diggs as insurance not only takes all the pressure off of McLaurin, but it can also open up passing and running lanes for Daniels to use while the focus is on the threat of the two wideouts downfield.
The Commanders just make too much sense for Diggs, given that they don’t make the move for Brandon Aiyuk.
Indianapolis Colts
The Indianapolis Colts might be one of the most underrated landing spots for Diggs in 2026. They traded away Michael Pittman Jr., leaving them with a thin wide receiver group behind Alec Pierce and Josh Downs. If anything happens to one or both of them, the Colts would be in trouble. If both stay healthy, on top of having Diggs, his unique skill set would mesh very well with what Pierce and Downs can do. Signing Diggs makes their depth a little stronger and gives Daniel Jones a good trio of weapons to throw to.
At one point, the Colts went 8-2 to begin the season, leading many to believe that they were legitimate Super Bowl contenders. They had one of the best offenses in the league at that time. That’s when it all started crumbling down, losing their remaining seven games and missing the playoffs with a record of 8-9, all while also losing Jones to injury in the process.
The Colts need to bounce back from that historic collapse and adding Diggs to an offense with Pierce, Downs, Jonathan Taylor and Tyler Warren could be just what the they need to get back closer to their 2025 first-half selves rather than their 2025 second-half selves.
Las Vegas Raiders
Let’s throw in a surprising fit, as this might be the most under-the-radar landing spot for Diggs of the teams on this list. The Las Vegas Raiders seem to have a need at the wide receiver position heading into training camp, and whether it’s Diggs or not, Las Vegas might bring in a veteran to compete. If that’s the case, it may as well be the 11-year wideout.
Not only could the Raiders use some more experience and leadership among their wide receivers, but they have two options at quarterback who could suit well with Diggs. There’s a quarterback competition going on between Kirk Cousins and Fernando Mendoza. It’s expected that Cousins will be the starter Week 1, which might help the case to sign Diggs even more.
Of course, Cousins was Diggs’ starting quarterback with the Minnesota Vikings for the two seasons, 2018 and 2019. Diggs amassed the first two 1,000-yard seasons of his career, totaling 2,151 yards and 15 touchdowns. He also had the most yards per reception of his career in 2019 (17.9). Re-uniting with Cousins might actually help both sides out.
Diggs also has a track record of performing with young quarterbacks, as he did with Josh Allen and Maye. He could do the same if Mendoza were to take over the reins at some point.
The overall offense isn’t too far off from maybe making some noise with Ashton Jeanty at running back and Brock Bowers at tight end. The Raiders might be one of the last options for Diggs if he wants to make a run at a Super Bowl, but it could be one of the potential intriguing landing spots this offseason.
