Mets million dollar gamble Bo Bichette

Mets’ 42 Million Dollar Gamble May Finally Pay Off After Massive Win

During the offseason, after a flurry of moves, the New York Mets pulled off a massive deal to bring the clutch-hitter Bo Bichette to New York. The Mets signed Bichette to a three-year, 126 million dollar deal to replace an abundance of players New York either traded or allowed to walk. After a pretty bad start to 2026 and a 12-game losing streak, Bichette finally showed that the deal can be worth it.

Is Bo Bichette Turning the Corner For the Mets?

New York Wins Series Against Minnesota Twins After a Wild Game

The New York Mets were pretty much cooked by the opposing side, the Minnesota Twins after they lost their 12th in a row:

However, teams should really make sure they win a series before saying such a thing. First, New York would end their streak on a 3-2 win that saw Mark Vientos hit a game-winning single in the 8th inning. However, in the final game of the series, it was a bit more wild. In Christian Scott‘s first start since 2024, he walked 4 in the 1st inning that gave Minnesota a quick 1-0 lead. Then, in the bottom of the 1st, New York would take a 3-1 lead on Bret Baty‘s first homer of the season.

New York added three more in the 2nd before Minnesota made it 6-2. New York got a solo shot from Carson Benge to make it 7-2 before the Twins got a solo shot of their own to make it 7-3. Finally, in the 8th inning, Ryan Jeffers smacked a grand slam to tie the game 7-7.

In the bottom of the 8th, Bichette came up with the bases loaded and two out, and would go on to unload the bases and make it 10-7. Even with a scare in the 9th that saw the Twins make it 10-8 and get the tying run in scoring position, Devin Williams was able to end it, making the Mets winners of two in a row.

Bo Bichette Was Signed For Exactly Such a Thing

Bichette isn’t exactly Francisco Lindor in terms of power, but more comparable to a player like Bobby Witt Jr.. Bichette is able to provide some power but also a high amount of hits, a high average and a lot of RBI’s. Bichette was meant to add a whole different dynamic, which New York hoped would go well with a player like Juan Soto and others around him like Lindor who are awesome offensively as well.

Bichette has a career .292 average, even after a having a bad season in 2024 thanks to also injury, where he hit .225 in just 81 games. Bichette was probably going to be a Philadelphia Phillies for seven years if it wasn’t for the big short term deal that Steve Cohen and New York offered Bichette. So far, his .238 batting average is pretty ugly, but after starting the year terribly, in March, Bichette is batting .277 and has got progressively better, providing New York with some important hits, including the double that won New York the series.

The Time to Rally For New York Is Now, Even Without Francisco Lindor

The Mets upcoming series at home and on the road should provide New York fans some comfort:

Vs. Colorado Rockies

Vs. Washington Nationals

At. Los Angles Angels

At. Colorado Rockies

All of these games are a three-game series, and if New York could win each series and possibly go 10-2 or 9-3, then they would be very nearly .500. That won’t be easy, but the Mets have an eight game winning streak against the Rockies. Meanwhile, they also have a 23-7 record when at home against the Washington Nationals since 2022 and are 14-3 in their last 17 games. As for the Angles, well, the Angels aren’t a very good team at times, making the series very winnable.

Lindor remains to be a very key part of the offense, especially since he was starting to heat up once he hit the IL. The stint will likely last longer then Soto’s, where the Mets went 4-12, but to be fair, Soto is a generational talent, and probably the purest hitter on the planet. It won’t be easy, but if players like Bichette and Baty can get hot, New York can secure some very important victories. The last time I checked, season’s never truly end in April.
