Despite what any college football fan says, of the 130 FBS football teams, there are only a handful that people actually wish to see in the National Championship. That being said, what five matchups would America love to see in 2019?

National Championship Matchups Everyone Wants to See

Alabama vs. Oklahoma

Who wouldn’t love to see a Tua Tagovailoa vs. Jalen Hurts title game? For those that have forgotten, Nick Saban pulled Jalen Hurts from the 2018 National Championship game vs. UGA at halftime when the Crimson Tide was losing 13-0 and put a freshman in the game. His name was Tua Tagovailoa. Tua would eventually lead Alabama to victory in overtime with a score of 26-23.

Hurts accepted his fate and never complained about losing his starting quarterback job; however, Hurts would become a hero for the Tide in December of 2018. He came off the bench in the 4th quarter of the SEC Championship game against UGA. The Tide were down 28-21 when Hurts entered the game. One touchdown pass and one touchdown run later, he had led them to another major victory over the Dawgs.

An Alabama vs. Oklahoma matchup would be a matchup that all of America could enjoy. Two former teammates would be on the field fighting for the title.

UGA vs. Ohio State

What about another former teammates matchup? A Jake Fromm vs. Justin Fields National Championship would be much more dramatic. Fields came to UGA as the #1 QB in the nation out of high school. However, Kirby Smart elected to continue with sophomore, Jake Fromm at QB. Justin Fields attempted less than 40 passes during his tenure with UGA.

All this being said, in week one of the 2019 season, Justin Fields threw for 234 yards and 4 touchdowns with over 60 yards of rushing. This performance made many in the state of Georgia wonder if losing Fields would come back to haunt the team.

This National Championship would have plenty of hype leading up to it.

Clemson vs. Ohio State

The Buckeyes have never defeated the Clemson Tigers in a football game. The last meeting between these two took place on December 31, 2016, in the College Football Playoff semifinals. The Tigers dominated the entire game and won by a score of 31-0.

Since then, Clemson has won two national championships compared to Ohio State’s zero. However, both teams have Heisman hopeful QB’s in Trevor Lawrence and Justin Fields. America wouldn’t complain about seeing another Clemson vs. Ohio State matchup. There is no doubt it would put two of the best offenses in the country against one another.

Clemson vs. Alabama

Of the 5 National Championships since the incorporation of the College Football Playoff, Alabama has appeared in four of the title games and Clemson has appeared in three. The Crimson Tide have won twice and the Tigers have won twice. These two have also met up twice in the National Championship. Both teams have victories over one another.

That being said, America would be fine watching Round Three of these two juggernauts. After last year’s 44-16 Clemson victory, there is no doubt that Nick Saban is looking to get back to the title game and take down Dabo Swinney‘s Tigers.

Alabama vs. UGA

Remember earlier when it was discussed the Tide having two comebacks against the Dawgs with two different QB’s? This is just one reason this matchup would be watched by the nation (especially those in SEC country). UGA must defeat Alabama in an SEC Championship or National Championship to get respect from most college football fans. Alabama is on a five-game win streak against UGA. However, the past two games have been decided by a total of 10 points.

Kirby Smart’s team has struggled to maintain leads against Alabama. Could this be the year this finally changes and UGA sees their first national championship since 1980 or will Nick Saban remain undefeated against his former assistants?

Conclusion

There are obviously many other potential matchups that college football fans would love to see. However, these five seem to be the most intriguing possible national title games of the 2019 season.
