College Football: Power Five Conference Championships

The regular season has come to an end in college football and that means it’s time for the post-season. Next up is the conference championships. Not only do teams look to reign supreme in their conference but teams are still playing for a chance at a spot in the College Football Playoffs. LSU, Ohio State, and Clemson are locked to be in but the number four spot is wide open. Georgia currently holds that spot but a lot of other teams are fighting to get in. It will come down to these games so buckle up and get ready for championship weekend.

College Football: Power Five Conference Championships

Pac-12 Championship: Oregon vs Utah

Oregon’s playoff hopes got crushed in week 13 with a 31-28 loss against Arizona State on the national stage. They are still a very good team as they are ranked 13 in the nation at 10-2, but they face a very good 11-1 Utah team in the Pac-12 Championship game. The Utes are ranked at five. Utah’s hopes are still very well alive as they are just on the outside of the playoffs. If Utah wins and Georgia losses, don’t be surprised if they find themselves in the playoffs at the fourth spot.

ACC Championship: Virginia vs Clemson

The ACC Championship might be the least compelling game of the power five conferences. Clemson is ranked third in the nation as an undefeated team. They are playing on another level right now with quarterback Trevor Lawrence. They got hot at the right time and may think they are just getting started. Not many give this 9-3 Virginia team a chance, which is understandable. Clemson will face either Ohio State or LSU in the first round barring a huge shakeup in the rankings.

Big 12 Championship: Baylor vs Oklahoma

The rematch many people are looking forward to is number seven Baylor vs number six Oklahoma. They faced off in week 12 in a great game. Baylor jumped out to a 28-3 lead before Oklahoma came back to win it 34-31. They have not forgotten about that game and will come to play. They both still have a chance at a playoff spot, so this game has huge implications.

Big Ten Championship: Wisconsin vs Ohio State

Another rematch will take place in a championship game, this time in the Big Ten. They faced off in a huge game in week nine and Ohio State dominated 38-7 at home. Wisconsin’s defense fell apart that game and look to make big adjustments. The offense also has to get going but that will be tough even with Heisman hopeful running back Jonathan Taylor. Ohio State’s defense, led by another Heisman hopeful in Chase Young, who will look to dominate yet again. Ohio State is playing to remain at number one while Wisconsin has an outside chance of making it at number eight but will be trying to spoil Ohio State’s playoff positioning.

SEC Championship: Georgia vs LSU

A huge championship game will take place on Saturday afternoon, more so for Georgia. They are currently at the number four spot as they face an undefeated LSU team in the last week. This is make-or-break for Georgia and their playoff hopes. LSU wants a dominating win and to carry big momentum into the playoffs. They also want a great defensive performance to show people they aren’t just an offensive team led by Heisman favorite Joe Burrow. Georgia’s offense needs to find themselves this week and they can if they stick to a game-plan. This is a huge game that could shake up the College Football Playoffs.

Last Chance

As mentioned before, almost all teams in the conference championships are fighting for a playoff spot, which is set up for one of the best championship weekends in a while. All the possible match-ups are great and would be very interesting. There will likely be three undefeated teams headed into the playoffs and that would be very exciting. Get ready for championship weekend because it’s going to be a fun one.
