Zack Cozart, Angels Agree to Three Year Deal

The Los Angeles Angels have a new starting third baseman. According to Ken Rosenthal, the Angels and Zack Cozart have agreed on a three year, $38 million deal. Cozart will average around $13 million per year.

In an excellent 2017 season, Cozart played some excellent defense and broke out at the plate. The seventh year infielder was named to his first All-Star game in 2017. He hit a career high .297 with 24 home runs and 63 RBI’s.

He spent his first seven seasons with the Cincinnati Reds, and has a career slash line of .254/.305/.411 with 82 home runs, 143 doubles, and 280 RBI’s.

Outlook

The Angels have made a tremendous effort this offseason to improve the talent around Mike Trout. Thus far, the Angels have signed the Japanese sensation Shohei Otani, who they plan to use as both a pitcher and an outfielder.

The Angels have also improved their infield defense. At the Winter Meeting, the team completed a trade for veteran second baseman Ian Kinsler from the Tigers. The infield in Anaheim now consists of Kinsler, Cozart, Andrelton Simmons, CJ Cron/Albert Pujols, and Martin Maldonado behind the plate.
