XFL Team Names Revealed

The XFL revealed team names for all eight teams in the league on Wednesday. People have been waiting for months for this announcement. The eight cities that revealed their identity were Dallas, Houston, Los Angeles, New York, St. Louis, Seattle, Tampa Bay, and Washington. Fans were looking forward to the announcement today of the team names and it didn’t disappoint.

XFL Team Names Revealed

The league has sent a draft pool invitation to hundreds to players. These players can include former NFL players and collegiate players who weren’t given a chance. Teams have already hired coaching staffs and now they are looking forward to the draft which will start in October. The next step for the XFL is to finalize the rulebook. Mimi-camp will begin in December and training camp in January 2020.

Dallas Renegades

Dallas has another football team in the city. The Dallas Renegades will be the newest team added in Dallas. They will play in Globe Life Park in Arlington, which after this year will be the former stadium for the Texas Rangers. Their head coach is former Oklahoma Sooners coach Bob Stoops. Their motto is “Raising Hell” and they sure are looking to do that in February in 2020.

Houston Roughnecks

The state of Texas will have yet another two-team sport. Dallas and now Houston of the XFL. The Houston Roughnecks will be playing at the TDECU stadium which is home to the Houston Cougars. The Roughnecks will be coached by June Jones who was formerly head coach with the Atlanta Flacons and the now Los Angeles Chargers.

Los Angeles Wildcats

Los Angeles just gained an NFL team a few years ago and then landed another one a couple of years ago. Well, they just added one more football team but this time in the XFL. The Los Angeles Wildcats will join a big market in Los Angeles. They will be coached by Winston Moss who has some experience in the NFL but not as a head coach. They will play Dignity Health Sports Park in Carson.

New York Guardians

The New York Guardians will be another football team in that city. The XFL wanted to go to big markets and they did. Kevin Gilbride was named head coach of the Guardians. He has a lot of experience in the college ranks and both the CFL and the NFL. They will play at MetLife Stadium, home of both the New York Jets and New York Giants. As they said, “They are your first line defense, and there is no need for a second.”

St. Louis BattleHawks

St. Louis lost an NFL team a few years ago and was outraged on the handling of this. The city loved football and now after a few years, football has returned to the City of St. Louis. The XFL has announced that their team will be the St. Louis BattleHawks. St. Louis is the only city in the XFL not to have an NFL team. The city is buzzing right now and football coming back to the city is one of the reasons why. The BattleHawks will be coached by former Cincinnati Bengals tight ends coach Jonathan Hayes. They will play at The Dome at America’s Center. They are ready to go and are “Cleared to engage.”

Seattle Dragons

The Seattle Dragons will be “Breathing fire” this season. Head coach Jim Zorn spent 11 seasons as a quarterback in the NFL. He then was an offensive coordinator and a quarterback coach between college and the NFL. They will play at CenturyLink Field, the home of the Seattle Seahawks.

Tampa Bay Vipers

Tampa Bay’s team is called the Vipers. The Tampa Bay Vipers will play at Raymond James Stadium which is home of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. They are “Ready to strike” as they brought in head coach Marc Trestman. Trestman was head coach both in the CFL and the NFL where he is a two-time Coach of the Year.

DC Defenders

Interestingly, they didn’t include Washington in the name but this sounds perfect. The DC Defenders will be playing in the capital city of the United States. They will be “Taking their stand” at Audi Field which is home to the Soccer team D.C. United. They will be coached by Pep Hamilton who has 20+ years of experience as a coach in the NFL and with major college programs.

New League

Founder Vince McMahon hired commissioner Oliver Luck because he thought that he has a really smart football mind. The XFL wants to re-imagine the game of football. The league has money to last them for at least three years, possibly more. No one knows how the XFL will turn out but it certainly will be interesting to see them play starting February 2020.
