Wolves Comeback to Take All Three Points in Norwich

Saturday afternoon, Norwich City took on the Wolves of Wolverhampton in an important match for both teams. Going into the match, Norwich City was sitting in 19th place, just one spot above last in the table. If Norwich City wants to get out of the relegation zone, they’re going to have to make some moves in the upcoming months before it is too late. Meanwhile, Wolves were placed 8th in the table to start Saturday afternoon. For them, all it takes is a win or two, and they’re back in the Champions League territory. Early on, a wolves comeback was already needed but could do they compete? While these two teams were fighting for two completely different reasons, it is important for both of them nonetheless.

Wolves Comeback to Take All Three Points in Norwich

The First Half: Norwich City In Front

Although Norwich City was leading at the half-time whistle, the first half wasn’t ideal for the Canaries. Todd Cantwell scored in the 17’ minute to make the score 1-0 early on. However, a set of opportunities to make the score 2-0, or even 3-0 in favor of Norwich, would just slip out of their hands. Teemu Pukki had a majority of these, missing the back of the net in the 24’ minute and 43’ minute respectively. Norwich knew that if they didn’t come out with all 3 points, these opportunities would come back to haunt them and that they did.

The Second Half: Wolves Comeback

Through the opening minutes of the second half, the energy had already changed, Wolverhampton was caught offside a couple of times and missed some major opportunities. Emi Buendía missed another opportunity in the 59’ minute to make it 2-0 for Norwich. While just a minute later, Wolverhampton equalized in the 60’ minute to make it 1-1.

After this, Norwich City would not have many major opportunities for quite some time. Wolverhampton was dominating the second half, having opportunity after opportunity. Raúl Jiménez had an opportunity in the 69’ minute to make it 2-1 but missed it high to the left. Jiménez wouldn’t let this affect his play, as another opportunity presented itself in the 81’ minute. This time though, he made sure to smash it in the top left corner to make the score 2-1 Wolves.

In the 87’ minute, Cantwell, Trybull, and Tettey would come off for Norwich. They were to be replaced by Vrancic, Srbeny, and Onel Hernández. This late substitution just wasn’t enough for Norwich City though, as Pukki missed one more opportunity before it was too late.

Where They Stand

A Wolves comeback would be complete and Wolverhampton will take all three points, moving up to sixth place. This will put them ahead of teams such as Tottenham, Manchester United, and Arsenal. Meanwhile, Norwich City has dug themselves an even deeper hole, they’re now six points deep in relegation, only being in front of Watford in 20th.
