Why The Red Sox Yankees Rivalry Has Been Reborn

Meta descriptAA month ago the Red Sox were the best team in baseball with an impressive 17-2 record. For those of you who recall the Blue Jays were in second and the Yankees in a distant third place. Now thirty days later the Red Sox are on the verge of being swept in this post, we’ll examine three areas why the Yankee Red Sox rivalry has been reborn.

Why The Red Sox Yankees Rivalry Has Been Reborn

Over the Years the Yankees have had a reputation for spending money. And in 2017 they certainly did that by signing free agent slugger Giancarlo Stanton. Stanton joins a powerful lineup of Didi Gregorius, Aaron Judge, Brett Gardner and Gary Sanchez. In Stanton, the Yankees have one of the most talented rosters in all baseball

During the past five years the Yankees have finished fourth place only once. The other four years they finished in second place. The Red Sox, on the other hand, have won two divisional titles and a World Series. Also, consider they’ve hired their third manager in eight years. Disorganization seems to norm in Boston while rebuilding championships is on the agenda in New York.

Quality Farm System

Having one of the deepest farm systems in baseball is another attribute the Yankees are proud of. When the trading deadline arrives in July, you can expect the Yankees to be very active and get pretty much get anyone they choose. Young players to keep an eye on are pitcher Justice Sheffield, righthander Chance Adams, outfielder Clayton Torres and right hander Luis Medina. All prospects are rated very right by Baseball America.

Red Sox Farm System;

Despite capturing the AL East two years in a row the Red Sox do not have that deep of a system to work with. Top pitching prospect lefthander Jason Groome is out for the season facing Tommy John surgery. If anyone of the Red Sox starters gets injured, there’s not much help down on the farm. Twenty-four year old Jalen Beeks made an impression in Spring Training and was one of the last to get cut.

Another issue facing the Sox after the 2018 season is coming to terms with free agents Mookie Betts and Craig Kimbrel. With the addition of JD Martinez, the Sox are going to have to do serious payroll cutting in order to keep both.
