Leon Draisaitl

Top Five NHL Point Leaders This Season

During this time, sports have been put on pause for the time being. This includes the NHL, who’s regular season was close to an end. Everyone hopes the season can resume at some point. There were a lot of players performing at a very high level this season. The NHL point leaders are at the top of the list. The top spot is ahead by a good margin but other than that, it’s close. Watching hockey might have been taken away for right now, but we can still talk about it. As we deal with what the real world has given us, let’s take a moment to look at the top five NHL points leaders this season.

Top Five NHL Points Leaders This Season

Leon Draisaitl (110 Points)

Leon Draisaitl is running away in the points category. Draisaitl is the only player to have a 100 point season so far. He’s had an unbelievable season for the Edmonton Oilers and if the season continues, it doesn’t look like he’ll slow down. Even with injuries to other key players, Draisaitl has stepped up and still was putting up great numbers. He has 43 goals with 67 assists for 110 points on the season. Draisaitl isn’t doing it on his own as he has one of if not the best player in the game today on his team.

Connor McDavid (97 Points)

This isn’t a surprise seeing Connor McDavid as one of the top point leaders this season. Both McDavid and Draisaitl were neck and neck in points all season until McDavid got injured. These two sparked the Oilers and are making them a tough team. Even with his injury, he still has the second-most points in the league. He’s been putting up points with style all season long as he has 34 goals with 63 assists for 97 points. These two stars aren’t always on the ice together as they are apart of different lines. This makes it even more impressive and it makes the Oilers even more dangerous. This team will be a tough matchup for anyone with these two doing what they’re doing.

David Pastrnak (95 Points)

The Boston Bruins have the most points in the league with 100 and David Pastrnak is a big reason why. He is apart of the “perfection line” with Brad Marchand and Patrice Bergeron. This trio has been tearing up the league ever since they were put together. The leader has changed almost every season and this time, it’s Pastrnak. He leads the league in goals with 48 and has 47 assists which add up to 95 points. The Bruins look like they have yet another run at the cup with a well-rounded team, including the stellar play of Pastrnak.

Artemi Panarin (95 Points)

Artemi Panarin is tied with Pastrnak in points with 95. He has a strong case to be the MVP. He signed with the New York Rangers after playing with the Columbus Blue Jackets and has still has put up big numbers. He’s keeping this Rangers team in playoff contention with his 32 goals and 63 assists. Panarin already has more goals and assists this season than in any other season and that’s in only 69 games played so far. He’s a special player and the engine that keeps the Rangers going.

Nathan MacKinnon (93 Points)

One of the most skillful and fastest players in the league is at it again. Nathan MacKinnon is on pace to have the most goals in his career, which was previously 41. He has 35 goals on the season right now. He also is one assist away from breaking his career-high in that category. MacKinnon has the Colorado Avalanche only two points back of the St. Louis Blues for first in the Western Conference. This team can be a dangerous one this season and with MacKinnon playing like he is, they can make a deep run.

Puck Drop

With just a few games left in the season, everyone is hoping this season can continue in some sort of fashion. All of these players are stars and amongst the best in the league. Draisaitl will probably win the Art Ross Trophy but it’s a tight race for second in the league. If the league continues, it’ll be an interesting finish to a great season and it’ll be nice to see them perform in the playoffs.
