Five Teams With the Best 2020 NBA Championship Odds

Last Thursday was the day all basketball fans were waiting for. The league voted on the return-to-play plan for the 2019-20 season, and the NBA championship odds have now been revealed. is back up for grabs. The vote passed by a decision of 29-1 with the lone team voting no being the Portland Trail Blazers. It includes a 22-team format that will take place in Orlando. The return-to-play plan also includes:

  • 13 Western Conference teams and nine Eastern Conference teams
  • Eight regular-season games
  • Play-in tournament for the eighth seed and playoffs

The teams on the outside looking in have to be at least six games within the last seed to resume the season. Following the guidelines of this format, there will be five teams in the West and one in the East that will be fighting for the eighth seed. If the ninth seed is more than four games behind the eighth seed at the end of the regular season, the eighth seed earns the playoff spot. If the ninth seed is within four games, then the eighth and ninth seed will enter a play-in tournament that is double-elimination for the eighth seed and single-elimination for ninth.

The NBA plans to return on July 31st and that means an NBA Championship will be given out this season. The return of basketball could not come soon enough. As we await the resumption of the 2019-20 NBA season, let’s take a look at the teams with the best NBA championship odds.

Five Teams With the Best 2020 NBA Championship Odds

Lakers (+200)

The Los Angeles Lakers have the second-best record in the league but there are two reasons why they have the best odds and that is LeBron James and Anthony Davis. Both James and Davis are averaging over 25 points a game. Davis also is averaging 9.4 rebounds a game while James is averaging 7.9 rebounds and 10.6 assists a game. After these two, only one player is averaging double-digit points and that’s Kyle Kuzma. That goes to show you how much LeBron and Davis are contributing to this team. They’ve got a great chance to make the finals but they could face an even better team when they get there.

Bucks (+275)

There’s only one team that has a better record than the Lakers and that’s the 53-win Milwaukee Bucks. They’re led by 2019 MVP and current MVP candidate Giannis Antetokounmpo. He’s neck-and-neck with LeBron for the award but many think Giannis ran away with it a while ago. The Greek Freak is averaging 29.6 points per game while also contributing 13.7 rebounds per game. His co-star, Khris Middleton, is averaging 21.2 points per game and they’re getting solid production from Eric Bledsoe and Brook Lopez. This team has the starting five and depth to make a real run and win the championship.

Clippers (+300)

There’s another team in Los Angeles that is primed to make a run and that’s the Clippers. They put together a great team this offseason with Kawhi Leonard and Paul George. Kawhi is averaging over 25 points per game while George is averaging just over 20 in nine fewer games. The Los Angeles Clippers are also getting major contributions from other players like Lou Williams (18.7 ppg), Montrezl Harrell (18.6 ppg), and Marcus Morris (17.4 ppg), who joined the team later in the season. They haven’t played a lot together but when all of these guys are on the court, they’re nearly unstoppable. The Clippers are a dangerous team heading into the playoffs and it wouldn’t shock anyone if they won a championship.

Celtics (+1200)

The Boston Celtics have the second-best odds to represent the East in the NBA Finals. This team has the experience and the talent to give other teams a challenge. They have three players who are averaging over 20 points in Jayson Tatum, Kemba Walker, and Jaylen Brown. Tatum’s talent is growing every year and Walker has been the spark this team needed ever since being traded over. If anyone can make a surge to the top and stop these big dogs, it’s the Celtics.

Raptors (+1400)

The Toronto Raptors will begin their road to defending their championship. They lost a big piece in the offseason with Kawhi leaving and they still are doing well. The Raptors are second in the East with 46 wins and that’s in large part due to Pascal Siakam‘s 23.6 points per game. Toronto has had other players step up this season in the absence of Leonard. They have six players with double-digit points per game and that includes long-time Raptor Kyle Lowry along with Fred VanVleet. This team has power in it’s starting five has some firepower on the bench. These players might not the biggest stars but they’re playing as a team and the chemistry among them couldn’t be better.
