Three Moves the Mets Could Make to Turn Things Around

The New York Mets have been one of the worst teams in baseball as of late. Since starting 11-1 to open up the season, they have fallen apart. In games when they can pitch, they can not score runs. In games they score runs, they can not pitch. It has been a miserable month or so for this team. Here are three moves the Mets could make to turn things around.

Release Jose Reyes

If we’re being brutally honest, Jose Reyes has been useless for the 2018 Mets. He looks completely lost not only at the plate, but also in the field. As much as it may hurt for the Mets and Reyes to admit, he is not a Major League player anymore. Reyes does not have the ability or the talent to contribute at the big league level. The Mets need to cut ties with Reyes sooner, rather than later.

Leave Seth Lugo in Rotation

Perhaps the biggest bright spot on the 2018 New York Mets has been the rise to stardom of Seth Lugo. He has been absolutely dominant, as he has just a 1.77 ERA through 45 innings. He has also made a pair of starts, including his most recent shutout of the Yankees. No matter what situation Lugo has been thrown into, he has gotten the job done. The Mets are going to need their pitching to continue to shine. Lugo staying in the rotation with Jacob DeGrom, Noah Syndergaard, Steven Matz, and Zack Wheeler is the key to that.

Call Up Young Guns

This Mets team is in the midst of a slump and needs a spark. Luckily for them, that spark may be closer than they think. Up in Binghamton, the Mets have a pair of bats enjoying tremendous seasons. First baseman Peter Alonso and utility man Jeff McNeil are both putting up great numbers thus far. Both hitters have some pop, and could provide a much needed energy boost. Alonso could fill in as the everyday first baseman, and McNeil could serve as a reliable bat off the bench.
