Yes, of course, it seems a bit early to be talking about this. But then again, most of these plans happen a year in advance so no, no it isn’t. If you would indulge me for a moment, I would like to use my venue as a writer to help along an idea that has been making its way around the internet.
The Football Halftime Show We Need to Have
Losing a Piece of Our Childhood
There are some things that stick with us from childhood through adulthood and beyond. This is for all manner of people. Be they executives, laborers, writers or sports stars. Last month as most of us are sadly aware, Stephen Hillenburg passed away from Lou Gehrig’s disease. Among other things he brought to our lives, he is the creator of Spongebob Squarepants. Now don’t lie, you still watch the show even if your kids are grown up, and they still watch it too. He brought all of us so much joy and laughter that his memory will live forever.
A Fitting Tribute
There is a petition going around to have one of the songs from season two played at the Superbowl. The song’s name is ‘Sweet Victory’ and it is from the episode Band Geeks. It is considered one of, if not the best episode of the entire series. In the episode, Spongebob and his friends played the song at the ‘Bubblebowl’ which of course was their version of our Superbowl. The NFL has done many things as help and or tribute to those we have lost, and I am willing to bet if I took a poll of current and former football players. There would be an overwhelming number of Spongebob fans.
Last Word
Is this a sports story? Sure it is, sports and entertainment are a huge part of our lives. Combining and honoring them is only fitting since they bring so much to our lives. Included below is the link to the petition people, including me, have signed. Let’s take a minute out of our sports watching to combine two of our favorites and give a tribute that Stephen will hear in the afterlife. Thanks for your attention and R.I.P. Stephen Hillenburg.
