The 2025 MLB Season: A Look Back at the Top 5 Moments

1. The Dodgers’ Repeat World Series Title, Secured in Game 7

The Dodgers captured their ninth World Series championship by defeating the Blue Jays in a thrilling Game 7, becoming the first franchise since the 2000 New York Yankees to win back-to-back titles. The series, which saw both teams battle fiercely, came down to the final play in Toronto. With the game tied 4-4 in the top of the 11th, the Dodgers took the lead thanks to a solo homer by Will Smith. In the bottom half, with runners on the corners and one out, Dodgers pitcher Yoshinobu Yamamoto induced a ground ball to Mookie Betts at second base, who turned a game-ending double play. Betts, who later admitted to being incredibly nervous in the high-pressure situation, secured the 5-4 win.

Yamamoto would go on to win World Series MVP after starting Game 6 and closing out Game 7 the very next night. It was one the most incredible performances by an individual in MLB history. The 2025 World Series was arguably one of the best World Series in MLB history as well. It delivered an 18-inning Game 3, one last appearance from Clayton Kershaw, heroics from Yamamoto, with clutch hits and defensive plays from both teams throughout. It’s only fitting that the biggest moment of the season comes from an epic World Series.
