The Derby
The Merseyside Derby at Anfield looms large on the first of April. This fixture has all the makings of a proper war. Everton have been excelling as of late, with Romelu Lukaku tearing defenses to bits. They are the last of the top seven sides Liverpool are to face this season, and perhaps the most important. Everton are breathing down the necks of Manchester United and Arsenal ahead of them. They’ve got the ability to surpass both sides and achieve Europa League status especially if they can defeat Liverpool at Anfield. It must be noted the Blues have not won at Anfield since 1999. All signs point to this being the most pivotal derby in many years on Merseyside. Expect an absolute cracker of a match.
Keeping Up Intensity
Liverpool must approach each of the forthcoming matches with incredible intensity. After coming so close to defeating Manchester City this past weekend, the Reds must realize their potential to defeat all in their path. It is irresponsible to be overly confident or dismissive of any team. That is how the relegation threatened teams have defeated the Reds this season. A professional approach to each game is going to be essential to success.
Intelligent Player Management
Managing injuries will also be paramount. Jordan Henderson’s foot problems remain a seeming constant while Dejan Lovren is yet to return to the starting XI. Ragnar Klavan has performed admirably at center back but he is the only natural center back left if Lovren cannot play. Having flexibly and resiliency will be ideal down the stretch. Ben Woodburn performed well against Burnley in relief of a struggling Philippe Coutinho as well. Everyone named to the bench must be ready to fill any role asked of them as the ranks are thinned. Divock Origi must be on the top of his game as well being the only natural striker in the first team.
All in all, things are on the up at Liverpool FC. They must maintain focus and endeavor to cement Champions League status at all cost. They have all the talent in the world to do so, and must use all of their mental toughness to make their dreams a reality.
