Los Angeles Rams head coach Sean McVay pushed hard to secure Davante Adams‘ services for the 2025 season.
LA Rams Brass Pushed Hard to sign Davante Adams
The NFL world was left stunned Sunday evening when news broke that All-Pro receiver Davante Adams signed a two-year $46 million deal with the LA Rams. It was a big move for the Rams and one that instantly puts them into contention with some of the best teams in the NFL this season.
Sean McVay had been in contact with Adams and his reps for the last few days and was able to convince Adams to finish his career in LA. Adams was released from the New York Jets last week, and it was reported that his preferences were to play on the West Coast and to play for a contender, and he will get to do just that with LA this season.
Here’s a fun twist to the Davante Adams / Rams signing. Davante is currently in… Japan.

Adams is coming off a season in which he achieved the 1,000-yard receiver mark for the sixth straight season. While playing for both the Las Vegas Raiders and Jets last season, Adams finished with 1,063 yards and eight touchdowns. He also ranked tenth in targets per route and was 13th in yards after the catch per reception. In the red zone, Adams had 11 receptions for six touchdowns, and he ranked seventh in the NFL in end zone targets.
The Adams move comes off the back of a long-anticipated release of Super Bowl MVP receiver Cooper Kupp. Kupp had long been the Ram’s go-to receiver, but injuries and the emergence of star receiver Puka Nacua saw Kupp take a lesser role on the team and eventually led to the Rams wanting to go in a different direction. Though a year older than Kupp, Adams has been healthier and more productive as a receiver over the past three seasons. McVay mentioned after the season that he wanted to add more versatility and juice to the offense to make it more versatile, and there is no doubt they’ve been able to do that by signing Adams.
New Look Rams Offense with Davante Adams
If Adams wants to know what he could look like in a Rams offense, he could look further than what star wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. looked like when he joined the Rams for their Super Bowl run during the 2021 season. Adams will quite literally be playing next to a top ten receiver in Nacua who is a top two receiver in both man coverage metrics and zone coverage metrics. The Rams also re-signed Tutu Atwell, which will provide a speed element that both Nacua and Adams don’t have that teams will have to respect
The Rams also have a Pro Bowl running back in Kyren Williams, who is coming off his second consecutive 1,000-yard season. A month or two from now, when the 2025 draft is here, they have the chance to add to their offense if they choose to do so. With Matthew Stafford behind center and McVay dialing up the plays, this Rams offense could contend for the best offense in the NFL in 2025.
After falling short in the divisional round of the playoffs and giving the Super Bowl champions Philadelphia Eagles their toughest game of the playoffs, it looks like the Rams are ready to load back up.
