New Orleans Pelicans big three come up clutch in win over Portland

Rajon Rondo and the New Orleans Pelicans come up clutch to steal game two in Portland.

Point guard Rajon Rondo fell one assist shy of a triple-double. Instead he posted a double-double, sixteen points and ten rebounds. He only made two out of an attempted three triple pointers. One of those shots came with under one minute to go and iced the game for the New Orleans Pelicans.

The only critique for the championship point guard is he turned the ball over six times. Other than that, he played his role, defended well, and helped carry his team to victory on the road. Rondo turned the clock back to his vintage self making plays when needed.

Additionally, power forward Anthony Davis posted a double-double and Jrue Holiday scored thirty-three points, along with nine assists. Davis recorded twenty-two points and thirteen rebounds.

No one on the Portland Trail Blazers could stop Davis in the paint. Portland did all they cold to stop Davis, but nothing was working. Coach Terry Stotts countered with Zach Collins who has the height, but was still outmuscled by Davis.

Jrue Holiday was close to a double-double, just one assist shy. He scored twelve of his thirty-three in the final quarter. Holiday had a stellar game, including the fact that he locked down Damian Lillard.

Lillard only had seventeen points and he turned the ball over seven times. Lillard wasn’t much of an impact in the game since Holiday locked him down, holding him to three rebounds and four assists.

Nikola Mirotic was the X-factor this game as he hit two timely jumpers with a player in his face. This is how physical the game was, yet everything was going the Pelicans way.

Alvin Gentry and the Pelicans executed their game plan to perfection and victory. They will look to sweep the Trail Blazers back home in New Orleans.
