Los Angeles Clippers
The Western Conference’s third-place team, the Los Angeles Clippers, have been a bit disappointing after acquiring Kawhi Leonard and Paul George in the offseason. Houston Rockets
The Houston Rockets worked out a three-team trade sending Clint Capela to the lowly Atlanta Hawks. In return, they acquired Robert Covington from the Minnesota Timberwolves. It was a confusing trade to many NBA insiders but so far, the trade appears to have worked. The Rockets went 9-2 in their first 11 games with Covington. James Harden’s space on the court has opened up allowing him the chance to score from multiple areas of the court. Covington averages 12.3 points, 2.6 blocks, and 6.9 total rebounds per game. He has been immense down low and enabled the frontcourt to control the perimeter.
Miami Heat
Not many NBA experts saw the Miami Heat landing Andre Iguodala at the trade deadline. Yet, the Heat did just that. Miami is the fourth seed in the Eastern Conference and were labeled as the East’s second-best team behind the Milwaukee Bucks. Iguodala hadn’t played all season for the Memphis Grizzlies and since making the move to south Florida, the Heat haven’t been good. They could even be rethinking their deadline move. The Heat are 2-6 in their first eight games with Iguodala. The big man averages 4.3 points per game and 4.5 rebounds in Miami.
Golden State Warriors
The Golden State Warriors are looking ahead to next season. They have gone from first to worst in the Western Conference and injuries have marred any hope Steve Kerr had of making the playoffs. Kevin Durant left in the offseason and Klay Thompson and Stephen Curry both suffered long-term injuries before or during the season. At least the Warriors attempted a trade to improve the team and build for next season. Andrew Wiggins arrived from the Minnesota Timberwolves and will be a good player for next season for Golden State. Wiggins averages 19.2 ppg (points per game) although the Warriors are yet to win with him in the team. According to Kerr, Wiggins is an “underrated player” despite the talk from NBA experts claiming he is overrated. Wiggins can’t be judged until the Warriors get their first-choice starting five back healthy.
