Norwich City v Sheffield United Preview (Matchweek 29)

Two teams, two last season promotions, two completely different 2019-2020 campaigns. Matchweek 29 is on its way.

Norwich City v Sheffield United Preview (Matchweek 29)

Norwich City is currently sitting in 20th place, while Sheffield United is in eighth, and two points behind fifth place. As Norwich City was the winner of the Championship just a season ago, you would expect them to be higher than their counterpart Sheffield United, but that is not the case. Sheffield United are currently 19 points ahead of the Canaries, and we’re getting ready to head down the final stretch of the season.

Previous Result

This is the second meeting between the Blades and the Canaries of the season. The first meeting finished in a 2-1 victory for Sheffield United. Despite Norwich City scoring first in the 27th minute, Sheffield United responded by scoring two goals in a matter of four minutes. These two were thanks to Enda Stevens and George Baldock.

What this match means for Norwich City

Norwich City are coming off a much-needed win against a third-place Leicester City team. Sheffield United, on the other hand, will have come off a 1-1 draw against Brighton. The Canaries are going to want to prove that they can play with their fellow current promoted team. This match is a great chance to take that leap into the fight out of relegation. They are currently six points behind 17th place. With a win against Sheffield United, they have the potential to become just one win behind. While the stakes are high for the Canaries, the opportunity for Sheffield United may be a bit greater.

What this match means for Sheffield United

Sheffield United are having a season of dreams, and they’re just five points away from the top four, a Champions League position. Winning against the last place Norwich City would mean more than just getting them that much closer in position. It also will have the potential to put them in fifth place, a Europa League position. Manchester United is currently positioned in fifth place. However, they have a match against second-place Manchester City this weekend in the Manchester Derby. That means Sheffield United has the chance to jump into the top five, surpass Manchester United, bury their promoted partner Norwich City, and take a leap for the Champions League, all in one game.

Matchweek 29 Prediction

The two teams will participate in what is sure to be a great match this Saturday morning. Despite Norwich City having more shots on target in their last meeting, and holding position for most of the match, they still were not able to get the job done. This is why I believe that as a home game for Sheffield United, and so much opportunity on the line, this a bigger game for the Blades than the Canaries.

Prediction: Sheffield United 3 – 1 Norwich City
