As the season continues, many teams have already begun to show signs of dominance. Others, meanwhile, have shown sign’s weakness and an inability to compete. From the Colorado Rockies massive losing streak, to the Met’s winning streak, the power rankings have again changed much over the week.
1. New York Met’s (15-7)
Sure, many teams have a better record than the New York Met’s. However, after a very disappointing series against the Minnesota Twins, the Met’s absolutely clobbered the St. Louis Cardinals. The Met’s pitching staff is amazing, Alonso is still raking, and finally, the great Francisco Lindor has become the MVP version of himself again. The Met’s keep looking better every week.
2. San Diego Padres (16-6)
The San Diego Padres have looked amazing so far this season. Almost every series the Padres have won, and so far, it looks as if the team can compete with and even defeat the Dodgers in the NL West. With all of this excitement, the Padres definitely have a high ranking in the power rankings this week.
3. Los Angeles Dodgers (16-7)
After a mediocre week, which included a series loss against the Chicago Cubs, the Dodgers rebounded nicely with a sweep of the Rockies and a series victory over the talented Texas Rangers. The Dodgers didn’t prove much with a victory against Colorado, however, LA still looked much better this week.
4. San Francisco Giants (14-8)
The San Francisco Giants certainly have slowed down after an amazing start. The Giants managed to come out of the week not looking like the team it had at the beginning of the season. The Giants however still have a good record and did split the series against the Philadelphia Phillies.
5. Arizona Diamondbacks (13-9)
The Arizona Diamondbacks, who no doubt looked good after last week, followed up with a sweep of the Miami Marlins and a series loss against the Chicago Cubs. The series loss against the Cub’s still didn’t do much to make Arizona look bad, as the D-Backs still look very strong after another good week.
6. New York Yankees (14-8)
What’s going bad for the New York Yankees? Not much, as Max Fried looked amazing and the Yankees performed well over the week. There remains’ to be concerns on offensive production from certain players, as many players are still hitting below .200. And, in addition to this, the Yankees big trade acquisition Devin Williams has been terrible. However, the Yankees still look strong, and managed to perform well over the week.
7. Philadelphia Phillies (13-9)
The Phillies didn’t do much over the last week compared to other teams. The Phillies are 5-5 in their last ten and haven’t done much to prove their a great team yet after an initial surge. Moving on.
8. Detroit Tigers (13-9)
The last week for the Detroit Tigers wasn’t that good, as a series loss and a series victory is kind of mediocre. No major surges and downfalls however made Detroit look bad over the last week. The Tigers overall look like the best team in the AL Central, and continue to move up the power rankings.
9. Chicago Cubs (14-10)
The Cubs two looked mediocre over the last week, notching both a series loss and a victory. Nothing much has changed with this team. One thing though: the Cub’s offense is very deadly, as the team has scored at least 10 run’s in 6 different games now.
10. Seattle Mariners (12-10)
The Seattle Mariners look like a very dangerous team after this week. Not only did the team’s offense come alive, the Mariners offense stomped the Cincinnati Reds and Toronto Blue Jays. A good pitching staff with a good offense will produce good results. For now, Seattle only continues climb up the rankings.
11. Texas Rangers (13-9)
Over the last few series, the Texas Rangers have been all over the place. Not only did they get swept by Seattle, they managed to then sweep the Los Angeles Angels and then lose in a series against the Dodgers. The Rangers have shown significant potential by need to stay consistent to move up the rankings.
12. Cleveland Guardians (12-9)
The Cleveland Guardians haven’t done much this season so far either. However, the Guardians flashed some beautiful potential after a sweep of the Pittsburgh Pirates. The Guardians can and might become the team to beat in the AL Central. Overall, though, Emmanuel Clase may become a problem later.
13. Boston Red Sox (11-10)
The Boston Red Sox started to skid a bit before a 4-game win streak made the club rebound. Overall, however, the Red Sox still have been mediocre and showed that by fumbling the final game of the series against the Chicago White Sox. The Red Sox still aren’t too good after last week.
14. Toronto Blue Jays (12-10)
The Toronto Blue Jays still sit in the middle of the pack for now. However, the Jay’s still didn’t look too bad at all against the Braves and even though the Jay’s lost to the Mariners, the Blue Jays still looked better than not over the last week.
15. Milwaukee Brewers (12-10)
After an 0-4 start, the Milwaukee Brewers have showed significant ability to compete. Even though it feel like the Cub’s are blowing out the Brewers, the Brew Crew remains to be just one game behind Chicago. As the season progresses, the Brewers actually look like competitors for the NL Central and this didn’t change over the last week.
16. Cincinnati Reds (11-11)
The Cincinnati Reds too good over the week, as the team suffered both a series loss and victory. However, the Red’s have showed dangerous potential, especially offensively. The Red’s scored 24 runs in their last outing, showing great potential. The Red’s definitely deserve to move up the rankings.
17. Los Angeles Angels (11-10)
After a good start to the season, the Los Angeles Angels have waned a bit. Many players have done terribly to begin the season and the Angel’s just didn’t look good over the week. One good thing though: a walk-off victory is at times the best type of the victory.
18. Houston Astros (10-11)
The Houston Astros have simply put have been mediocre since the beginning of the season. The Astros have managed to win and lose series almost every week. This week was no exception, as the team lost and won a series and didn’t prove anything to move up the rankings.
19. Athletics (10-12)
The Athletics were able to bounce back nicely after a series loss against the Mets. Of course, a sweep of the Chicago White Sox isn’t exactly hard to do, but the team still improved over the week and deserves to move up the rankings. Hopefully, Tyler Soderstrom can continue his dominance and lead his team into AL West contention.
20. Baltimore Orioles (9-12)
Honestly, the Baltimore Orioles are much better than their record shows. However, how can one condemn a 24-2 loss? In football that’s getting blown out. The O’s need to improve quickly, especially their pitching staff.
21. Kansas City Royals (9-14)
The Kanas City Royals were absolutely terrible over the week. The Royals are likely better than their record, however, a 6-game skid is never a way to move up the rankings. The Royals’ pitching staff has remained great, but the hitting needs to improve quickly. For now, the Royals just don’t look good at all.
22. Atlanta Braves (8-13)
Finally, the Atlanta Braves can breath a sigh of relief for now. The Braves began the week on a bad note, as they lost to the Jay’s in another series. However, the Braves did manage to finally put together a win streak as they swept the Twins. The Braves actually looked pretty good this week.
23. Tampa Bay Rays (9-13)
As the season progresses for Tampa Bay, it seems that the season looks more and more like a rebuild. The team has struggled to get hit’s and consistently loses series. The Ray’s can still show some power and talent, but for now the team doesn’t look like a competitor.
24. Washington Nationals (9-13)
Over the week, the Washington Nationals embarrassed themselves with a series loss against the Pirates and Marlins. The Nat’s did come away with a victory over the Colorado Rockies. However, the Nat’s still look bad, especially since the Rockies aren’t a very good team.
25. St. Louis Cardinals (9-13)
How about a series victory against the Phillies! Oh, and the Astros as well! The St. Louis Cardinals must have been excited after those victories. However, instead of competing, the Cardinals got stomped by the Met’s in a hideous offensive showing. After this week, the Cardinals finally look like a team that is rebuilding.
26. Miami Marlins (9-12)
It was only a matter of time before the cracks began to show for Miami. Over the week, the Marlins fell thanks to a five-game skid. However, this isn’t very surprising at all. One of the worst teams coming into the year finally lost some games- obviously not very surprising at all.
27. Pittsburgh Pirates (8-15)
The Pittsburgh Pirates are among the most boring teams in the MLB. Unfortunately, the Pirates have managed to stink so far even with some young phenoms. Another losing streak for another losing season. No need to rank this team high in the rankings.
28. Minnesota Twins (7-15)
The Minnesota Twins remain a horrible team as well. Even though the Twins managed to defeat the Met’s, the Twins really proved themselves to be great by being swept by the Braves. Overall, this horrible team get’s a good spot for them in this rankings.
29. Chicago White Sox (5-16)
The Chicago White Sox are at this point lucky to win a game. The Sox have managed to only win 5 out of 21 games so far, and this will continue this season. Overall, the team is just not good.
30. Colorado Rockies (4-17)
The Rockies have been just plane bad so far this season. Really, this doesn’t surprise anyone at all. Overall, the Rockies are just a terrible team that will likely continue losing.
