MLB Mock Draft Mayhem: Who Should Really Go First in the MLB Draft?

As the MLB Draft comes along, the question is raised: Who will go number one this season? A lot of times in MLB history, this decision has completely changed a team’s history. From Spencer Torkelson to Carlos Correa, the number one pick can make or break a teams future. This year, who will go number one?

2025 MLB Mock Draft

LHP, Kade Anderson:

Kade Anderson, a southpaw from LSU, is a vast potential number one pick. Anderson is a major strikeout pitcher, as Anderson managed 181 K’s in just 19 starts this season. This included 11 starts with at least ten K’s. Anderson also had just 35 walks. Anderson’s 3.18 ERA also shows that in addition to great control of the strike zone, he also had the ability to limit runs.

There remain some issues, however. Anderson has already undergone Tommy John Surgery, which shortened his high school career. With an injury history, Anderson could definitely be a risky choice for number one. The Washington Nationals need more pitching, but would like to avoid a massive mistake by choosing an injury-prone pitcher.

SS, Ethan Holiday:

Ethan Holiday, son of Matt Holiday, possesses a lot of power offensively that could intrigue Washington. Despite being younger and less experienced, Ethan has the opportunity to surpass his brother. Ethan is a towering 6-4 shortstop with great high school numbers. In his senior year, Holiday hit 19 homers with a .600 average and an OPS above 2.000. These numbers are insane and show significant potential for the lefty slugger.

The Nationals already have a packed infield with some prospects and stars. However, Holiday presents power not really seen in the draft. Holiday isn’t exactly going to give a ton of steals and speed. However, the offensive upside will certainly gain attention.

SS, Eli Willits

Eli Willits is a very interesting wild card in this year’s draft. The youngster is just 17 years old but shows significant upside. Average, speed, and even a little bit of power has made Willits a great all around player for teams like the Nat’s to target.

Willits has much more average and bat-to-ball skills than power. However, Willits remains a very promising bat for Washington. Willits has gained some comparisons to Anthony Volpe with his skills. Willits would definitely be a risk. However, with his natural skill set, Willits is also a head turning player who has gained a lot of attention.

Overall, this years draft could shape the future of many MLB teams. As the Nationals hope to turn the corner after a horrible start to the decade (.407 win percentage), this pick will be very important. From power, average, and pitching, the Nationals have choices. This draft will definitely be an entertaining one.
