Michigan State has been very busy over the past week or so with recruiting. Eight days after they get a five-star recruit, a second commits to East Lansing. Tom Izzo‘s relationship with these kids played a huge factor in their decisions. His style of play on both sides of the ball caught their eye as well. Michigan State has been hot on the recruiting trail and it landed two great players in the 2021 and 2022 class. Tuesday was an exciting day for Spartan fans as they continue to get great players for the future.
Michigan State Basketball Lands A Pair Of Five-Star Recruits
Emoni Bates
Emoni Bates was the first of the two players to commit to Michigan State. Bates has quite a reputation going for him. Not only is he the number one prospect in the class of 2022 but he’s one of, if not the best high school prospect in any class. The six-foot-eight small forward out of Lincoln High School in Michigan had four other offers, including Kentucky and Michigan, but turned them down for Michigan State and a chance to play for coach Izzo, who Bates thinks is a balanced coach who doesn’t focus on only one part of the game. Bates’ athleticism and skill set are what separates him from the pack. He has multiple ways to score and that includes at the rim. The only “downside” to his game is his strength but despite that, he can still get it done. If he adds strength before getting to Michigan State, he will immediately become a superstar. Getting arguably the best high school player wasn’t enough as they went out and recruited another five-star player.
Max Christie
Just when things couldn’t get better for Izzo and Michigan State, they went out a got the number one ranked player at the shooting guard position and the number 13th player overall in the 2021 class. The six-foot-six, 165 pound Max Christie out of Rolling Meadows High School in Illinois had a great relationship with coach Izzo, like Bates. He picked Michigan State over the likes of Duke and Villanova. Christie has a high basketball IQ and is known as a great shooter. He has the size and athletic ability to take on anyone on the court. Getting Christie was high on the agenda to bolster this team for the next couple of years.
The Excitement In East Lansing
It’ll be a very interesting next couple of years in East Lansing. Michigan State is projected to make a run for the 2020-21 season yet again. When the 2021-22 season hits, the Spartans will definitely be one of the best teams in the country. When Christie arrives that year, so will Pierre Brooks (four-star recruit). Bates is in the class of 2022 but could very well reclassify to 2021. If that happens, Michigan State will be greatly set up for a national title run. The Spartans are in the top five recruiting class of 2021. The near future is bright in East Lansing and it’s an exciting time to be a Spartans fan right about now.
