Mets Offense May Have Come Alive Again With Slight Lineup Change

As the New York Mets closed out their third straight win, they have won 4 out of their last 5 for the second time this season. The Mets offense has been terrible, but they are now 14-22, and are now showing that there is a chance of a turn around in 2026. The Philadelphia Phillies, who were at one point 9-19, are now 8-1 in their last nine and are 17-20. The turn around for the Phils isn’t done yet, but it shows one thing, New York can do the same. One change may help the Mets offense drastically in the future as it already has.

Is the Mets Offense Coming Alive Again?

Mets Leadoff Hitter Could Drastically Change Their Offense

Juan Soto is just 1 for his last 13, and Soto has just one hit so far in the leadoff spot. However, the Mets are now 3-0 when Soto has leadoff, making the lineup change look pretty good. Usually in the MLB, teams want their players like Soto or Aaron Judge to be batting between the 2 and 4 spots in the lineup. Those teams usually have a couple of other good hitters to help out their superstar. However, whoever bats leadoff gets the most at-bats out of everyone on the team, making the position still very important.

According to ESPN, the Mets are 29th in runs, 26th in batting average, 29th in on base percentage, and 30th in slugging percentage. This means the Mets have one of the worst offenses in baseball, which usually makes teams quite desperate. This time, New York decided to pull the trigger and put Soto in leadoff, with his one hit being a leadoff homer that started the Mets 10-5 victory in Colorado.

Mets Offense May Be Coming Alive in Colorado

Much outrage and ridiculing fell on the Mets heads after the Rockies swept the Mets in New York last week. However, the Mets may redeem themselves as they are one game away from sweeping the Rockies and making themselves and their fans feel a lot better. Not to mention, many bats have come alive that can help New York a lot. Marcus Semien has been pretty awful, but he went 4-5 with a monster shot that now gives him 13 RBIs and two home runs. Carson Benge is now hitting .202, but has three homers with 10 RBIs, six steals, and unbelievable defense/speed.

Meanwhile, both Francisco Alvarez and Mark Vientos have shown pretty good signs, with both hitting .240 with four home runs. Finally, MJ Melendez, is now hitting .333 with still two homers, six RBIs, and is hitting the cover off the ball with an average exit velocity of 94.1, by far the best of his career so far. Ultimately, this is what New York wants and needs.

The Offense is the Key

If the Mets offense can do it’s job, even with a lot of injuries, then New York will definitely get back to .500 soon. New York has three aces right now, Freddy Peralta, as everyone expected, Nolan McLean, a disgusting rookie, and Clay Holmes, who has done unbelievable things. New York can also get some quality starts from Christian Scott, who can throw considerably hard ( 95.9 average mph on fastball) and control the strike zone. New York is going to need to see what they can do with the final spot in the rotation and see if their bullpen can hold up.

Overall though, the Mets pitching staff is a very good one if it can stay healthy. The great majority of their losses are because of their offense, not because of their pitching. Ultimately, if the Mets can continue to score runs, then they will continue to win.
