The New York Mets would go on to come back from being down 3-0 and win 4-3 in the opening game of the series against the Los Angeles Angels. Why? Well, it was thanks to a three run sixth inning that tied the game 3-3 before Ronny Mauricio, a potential star for New York hit a solo shot to give New York the lead – a lead that would give New York a victory. However, the Mets just cannot have nice things, as Mauricio will be out for likely 6-8 weeks with a fractured left thumb.
Injuries Starting To Pile Up For the New York Mets
Mauricio Hits a Long List of Injuries
The Mets now have:
Ronny Mauricio
And more on the IL. The offense has been massively affected by this, with of course Lindor, Polanco, and Robert being the biggest names on the list. The Mets hoped they could get good seasons from both Polanco and Robert, while of course, Lindor is a superstar shortstop the Mets just want to keep healthy.
Now, the Mets don’t have any of these guys able to play. Minter is a huge reliever for the Mets, and missed essentially all of 2025. Senga, Megill, Young, and Mauricio are also all important to the team. Mauricio gives them power and and a good overall prospect, Senga and Megill are both potentially good starters, while finally, Young got off to a hot start and could be an X-factor for a struggling Mets’ offense.
The Mets Offense Continues to Fail
The Mets won the first game of the series against the Angels, but in the second game, the offense continued to be very underwhelming. First, the Mets in the top of the 7th would score twice and tie the game at three. However, the then loaded the bases with only one out, only to see a fielders choice and a swinging strikeout from Bo Bichette and Juan Soto. That was a massive opportunity missed by New York.
Then, in the 10th inning, New York had two on and nobody out before Bichette hit a ball that was at his feet and grounded into a double play. That allowed the Angels just to intentionally walk Soto, and then pitch to Francisco Alvarez who would fly out to end the inning. When you don’t score in extras as the visiting team, that means usually game over, and it was. The offense just blew opportunity after opportunity. The injuries they have are just making it worse. Is there much hope in the Mets anymore? Well see.
