Memorial Day and the MLB – A Perfect Match

As the calendar year and MLB season move on, Memorial Day is the latest holiday upon us. The sports year is changing like the seasons while baseball is now in full swing. Let’s take a look at how well these two events mesh together.

Memorial Day and the MLB – A Perfect Match

A Loving Respect and Appreciation for our Veterans

Memorial Day is to honor those in our military who have died in service of our country. Those who have given everything so we could enjoy the peace we have. The MLB as well as the other sports organizations, love, respect, and honor our men and women who serve. On Memorial Day there will be games played with honor flyovers, moments of silence and many mentions of how grateful we as a country for the sacrifices of our armed service people. This is a day when the MLB makes sure they show their pride and respect.

The Deep Breath of Spring Air and Jump into Summer

The weather across the country, with the possible exception of the Denver CO area which received a freak late snowstorm, has great weather for the games that will be played. For a lot of people and sports fans, Memorial Day is the unofficial kick off of summer time. The fun of a day at the ballpark, eating hotdogs and popcorn, it’s a wonder no one has written a song about it…oh wait, they did. Much like the words of that song, take me out to the ball game is a great way for families to bond and enjoy a great day.

Positioning for the All-Star Break

Even though the All-Star break is about five weeks away, every coach watches the standings to see what the other teams are doing. As of right now, the two hottest teams in baseball are the New York Yankees and the Minnesota Twins. Both have been demonstrating great hitting and pitching to win nine out of the last ten games. Of course, being in first place now, means very little for October, but it definitely helps down the road.

The two teams with the most to worry about at the moment are the Baltimore Orioles and the Kansas City Royals. At least statistics wise if that is the only thing you look at. They are the furthest back and have the biggest mountain to climb to get back in contention. However, time is on their side as of now, and health will be key going forward. The Yankees were having a hard time as their players kept landing on the IL. Fortunately for them, they seem to be working on all cylinders.

Last Word

Get your baseball cap and get out there. Make sure you give thanks in your own way to those who have fallen. After that, make sure you enjoy all that America’s pastime has to offer. If you can’t make it to a ballpark to see the game live, Aim your tv towards your backyard and fry some burgers and hotdogs on the grill and invite your friends. Take some time to enjoy this Memorial Day and everything it means and stands for.
