Week 7 of the NFL season is here, and the slate is loaded with great matchups for fans worldwide to tune into. There is a rematch of last year’s Super Bowl with the Chiefs and 49ers while also a big matchup against two of the best young quarterbacks in the league, Jordan Love and C.J. Stroud.
Here are the five best matchups for week 7
Best Week 7 Matchups
1. Kansas City Chiefs at San Francisco 49ers
The rematch of Super Bowl LVIII. The Chiefs head to the West Coast to take on the 49ers in the matchup of the week. Both teams met back in February in Las Vegas, where the Chiefs were crowned champions in an overtime thriller.
The Chiefs will be coming into this game 5-0 off a bye week, while the 49ers are 3-3 and coming off somewhat of a mini-bye week themselves as they played Thursday night football last week. Both teams are dealing with their fair share of injuries for this game; however, there is still plenty of star power between them.
Can the 49ers finally beat the boogeyman Chiefs?
The 49ers have lost four straight games to the Chiefs, including two Super Bowls. They need a win in the worst way to get past their Chief’s demons, and they won’t have a better chance to do that than on their home turf this Sunday.
2. Detroit Lions at Minnesota Vikings
This NFC North matchup currently features two of the best teams in the NFC. The Vikings are the lone undefeated team in the NFC at 5-0, while the Lions sit at 4-2 but are coming off a demolition job of the Dallas Cowboys in Dallas to the tune of 47-9.
The NFC North has been far and away the best division in football through six weeks, and they have been historic. Each team in the division is 4-2 or better, which is the best start for a division since 1970. They also have a collective point differential of +211, and each rank one through four in the individual point differential in the league.
Though the NFC North has gotten off to a historic start, there is one caveat: none of the teams have played each other yet through six weeks. So, Sunday this matchup will be big for these two teams to see who can start positioning themselves for the division title crown.
3. Houston Texans at Green Bay Packers
Two of the best young quarterbacks in the league will be playing in Lambeau Field Sunday afternoon with Stroud and Love. The Texans are 5-1, while the Packers are 4-2. Stroud has continued to pick up where he left off from his rookie season and is playing among the best of all quarterbacks in the league. Love is returning to form after suffering a knee injury that kept him out for a couple of weeks.
The Packers and Texans rank eighth and sixth in Defense-adjusted Value Over Average (DVOA). DVOA is a metric that measures where a team is on offense, defense, and special teams. This matchup could easily steal the spotlight and end up being the best game of the Sunday slate.
4. New York Jets at Pittsburgh Steelers
The Jets go on the road to take on the Steelers in a game dominated by headlines both teams made earlier on in the week. The Jets made waves by trading for Davante Adams and pairing him back up with Aaron Rodgers. However, the Steelers made waves of their own after reports came out that they were planning to start quarterback Russell Wilson after the current starting quarterback, Justin Fields, had led the team to a 4-2 record. It will be Wilson’s first start after rehabbing a calf injury he suffered to start the season.
This matchup will be featured on Sunday Night Football with eyes on what both teams look like with their new changes.
5. Philadelphia Eagles at New York Giants
The Saquon Barkley revenge game? This will be the first time the Eagles running back returns to New York after signing with the rival Eagles in free agency back in March. Barkley spent six seasons with the Giants, and during free agency, the franchise decided to pass on signing him, and Barkley instead signed with the Eagles.
Despite his signing with a divisional rival, Barkley doesn’t believe that there will be bad blood between him and the Giants fanbase this Sunday when the two teams square off.
