Dwight Howard was one of the most dominate centers in the league just a few years ago when he brought the Orlando Magic to the Finals. Since then Howard has played on 5 different teams in 5 different years. Dwight has been rumored to be a cancer in the locker room and not being a true teammate. Dwight has just recently been traded to the Brooklyn Nets who are now working on a buyout with Howard. Howard will become a free agent this season after his buyout so we will breakdown some of the teams that may be interested in Dwight Howard.
Dwight Howard’s Possible Destinations:
1: Golden State Warriors
The Golden State Warriors have won the NBA Finals in three of the last four years. The Warriors could be looking for a starting center this offseason with Zaza Pachulia, Javale McGee, and David West all being free agents. Dwight Howard would have to take the veteran minimum if he wanted to sign with the Warriors. Howard would be a nice piece for the Warriors who have been shuffling their centers the past couple of seasons. Howard averaged 16 points and 12 rebounds last season which are above average numbers. Howard would bring defensive versatility, rim protection, rebounding, and an offensive post game to Golden State. Dwight would be the odd man out on some nights which may not be what he wants but if he wants to chase a ring then the Warriors could add a nice dimension to their team.
2: Cleveland Cavaliers
The Cleveland Cavaliers have made it to the NBA Finals the past 4 seasons and have dominated the Eastern Conference. The Cavaliers have one big free agent question mark this offseason in LeBron James and what he decides to do in Cleveland. No matter if LeBron decides to stay in Cleveland or take his talents elsewhere. Dwight Howard would be a nice pickup for the Cavaliers to pair with Kevin Love and the 2018 8th overall pick. The Cavaliers could still be in good shape if LeBron leaves and they landed Dwight Howard because they are in the Eastern Conference. Howard would pair nicely with Kevin Love who likes to bring his game more outside of the paint which would let Howard be dominate inside the paint. Now if James decides to stay then pairing Love and Howard with James could be dominate giving the Cavaliers a post up presence in which Tristian Thompson wasn’t very strong at.
3: Boston Celtics
The Boston Celtics are on the rise in the Eastern Conference with their young talent and their star players. The Celtics have a number of talented players in Kyrie Irving, Jaylen Brown, Jayson Tatum, Gordon Hayward, Al Horford, Marcus Smart, and Terry Rozier. The Celtics may be in the market for a starting center after having Aaron Baynes last season and adding Greg Monroe during the middle of the year. Dwight Howard would also have to take a discount to join the Celtics but Boston could be the best fit for Howard. Dwight would bring a much needed interior toughness to Boston and would pair very nicely with Al Horford and Kyrie Irving. Dwight Howard could be the missing piece for the Celtics with his defense and rim protecting. His offense could be huge for Boston with his post game, pick and roll game, and his offensive rebounding.
4: Washington Wizards
The Washington Wizards are rumored to be looking to move Gortat and Mahimi this offseason to free up cap space and move on from their centers. If the Wizards do end up moving on from their two centers then they could be in play for Dwight Howard. They would have enough cap space and Dwight Howard would be an upgrade for them. Dwight Howard could be the player he once was in Orlando when he was a dominate center on both ends of the floor. Howard would be paired with John Wall, Bradley Beal, Otto Porter, and Markieff Morris in which they can all space the floor giving Howard the paint to be dominate. The Washington Wizards are looking for a change so they can make some noise in the playoffs and Dwight Howard could be the change that they need.
