Liverpool and Manchester United target, the defender Stefan de Vrij, could be set to commit his future to Lazio after their latest bumper contract offer.
Defender Stefan de Vrij to Stay at Lazio
The Dutch defender’s current contract runs out next summer and has therefore been reported that Lazio are ready to cash in on him now rather than letting him go as a free agent in a year’s time.
Both Liverpool and United have been strongly linked with the 25-year-old, while Serie A champions Juventus are eager to land him too.
Lazio have been hoping de Vrij will decide to stay put by extending his current deal, although they have been so far been unable to convince him to sign fresh terms.
But now, according to La Repubblica, their latest offer might just have the desired effect with De Vrij currently mulling over the terms.
De Vrij will be offered a major rise in wages as an incentive to stay at the Stadio Olympico, leaving Liverpool and Manchester United out in the cold and needing to consider alternative transfer targets. It has been reported that the new deal would push his basic salary up to £1.8m per year with a series of performance-related add-ons, too.
It would also contain a reasonably modest £22.75m release clause which would be little problem for the chasing pack should they decide to go back for him in the future.
According to Sky Italia, the defender will agree to stay in itlay for the foreseeable future, putting an end to speculation linking him with a move away from Lazio.
