CeeDee Lamb Cowboys

CeeDee Lamb Fell Right Into The Dallas Cowboys’ Lap

With the 17th overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft, the Dallas Cowboys select star wide receiver, CeeDee Lamb, out of Oklahoma. Many would’ve thought that Lamb would go before Henry Ruggs, who went to the Las Vegas Raiders, and Jerry Jeudy, who went to the Denver Broncos, but he didn’t. Cowboys fans were pleasantly surprised that they were able to draft Lamb. Many pegged him as the number one receiver in the draft and he fell right into the Cowboys’ lap.

College Career

Lamb played three years of college football with the Oklahoma Sooners. In his first season (2017), he played 13 games while racking up 807 yards with seven touchdowns. His usage rate increased in 2018. In 14 games, he caught 65 passes for 1,158 yards and 11 touchdowns. As the clear number one, he had his best year in 2019. In one less game and with three fewer catches than in 2018, he had 1,327 yards with 14 touchdowns. He was number one in yards per reception in the Big 12 with 21.4. Lamb was so dominant that he was a 2019 Consensus All-American.

A Fit With the Cowboys

Many had Lamb going in the top, but that didn’t happen. As picks passed by, there were two receivers selected before Lamb. He was still available by the time the Cowboys rolled around. At that time, people thought Lamb was a possibility for Dallas and he was. They took Lamb before their division rival Philadelphia Eagles, who had the 21st pick. The Cowboys strength was the offense or their wide receiver group and they made it stronger.

The Cowboys signed Amari Cooper to a five-year, $100M contract to stay in town. Cooper had a career-high 1,189 receiving yards with eight touchdowns last season while making the Pro Bowl. They also have young up-and-comer in Michael Gallup, who has caught a lot of eyes in 2018. In his first year, he showed a lot of flash and skill. That was just a preview of what was going to come. He broke out in his second year last season as the number two receiver. In 14 games, he caught 66 passes for 1,107 yards and six touchdowns.

Slapping the talent of Lamb in-between these two players will give Dak Prescott some great options to throw to. Teams will also focus on containing each receiver so it’ll give Ezekiel Elliott space to work with. We don’t know about how the defense will play but the offense looks really good.

Last Drive

Over the past several years, the Cowboys have had a Super Bowl-contending roster but never could get to the big game. They were a disappointment last season at 8-8 in what was a down year. Many thought they would address the defensive side of the ball but instead, they make a strength stronger, which isn’t a bad thing. Lamb has a high upside and is a perfect fit for this Cowboys offense. Fans are excited to see this team take the field next year with their new wide receiver.
