Buffalo Bills Name Nathan Peterman Their Week One Starter

Nathan Peterman is the Buffalo Bills starting quarterback for week one against the Baltimore Ravens. This announcement comes as a surprise to many as Sean McDermott has made a name for keeping these kinds of announcements quite. Nonetheless, Peterman will go through the entire week as the starter and everything that comes with it. Whether Peterman will be able to succeed or not is anyone’s guess, but the struggles at offensive line need to be addressed. Especially if they want to avoid another situation like the Chargers from last season.

Pre-Season Performace:

Peterman performed well during the pre-season. His performance in week one was promising where he went nine for ten, threw one-hundred and eighteen yards, and threw one touchdown. His only incompletion was an interception. This performance came against the Panther’s first team at that time. He split time against the ones with AJ McCarron who also put up solid numbers in that game. It is important to acknowledge that both quarterbacks played well and the next game AJ McCarron was given the start.

As we now know, McCarron would go on to perform poorly due to an injury and offensive-line play. This played a part in his eventual trading to Oakland. Peterman wouldn’t face first team competition in weeks two, three, or four. However, when Peterman did get into the games, he performed very well and was able to showcase knowledge of the playbook and his ability to manage a game.

Josh Allen‘s Impact:

Another important thing to keep in mind in the wake of the announcement that Nathan Peterman is the week one starter is that Josh Allen is waiting in the background for his chance to take over. Allen showed flashes, during the pre-season, of the ability that made him the seventh overall pick. The talent is there and when Allen is ready to jump into the starting role Buffalo will have a serious talent on their hands. For now, Allen will be Peterman’s backup. He will learn from Peterman, Daboll, and McDermott alike on what it takes to be a starter in the NFL.

Moving Forward:

Now that the decision has been made, it is important for Buffalo to move forward with their decision and not get caught up in the drama that comes with keeping their talented young quarterback on the bench. Focusing on Baltimore and not Peterman vs Allen debate is something that Buffalo and Peterman need to make a priority. Regardless of how anyone feels now, Nathan Peterman will start for the Bills week one. It’s crucial that fans and the team get behind him so that Buffalo can start the season with a win.
