The St. Louis Blues are off to a good start on the season as they try and defend their Stanley Cup. General Manager Doug Armstrong has made some great trades over the years and he made a great one a couple of years ago. He got Brayden Schenn from the Philadelphia Flyers in exchange for Jori Lehtera a couple of years ago and it’s paying dividends. He has been an important part of this team and to show us how he was signed to an extension with the Blues.
Brayden Schenn Is Off to a Hot Start
Schenn’s Extension
The Blues and Schenn agreed to an eight-year, $52 million extension at the beginning of the season. Many believe he is an important piece to this team and will be for years to come. Many players that sign an extension or get a new deal with a team want to prove why they are worth it and he has so far.
In 588 regular-season games, he has posted 372 points with 154 goals and 218 assists for his career. Schenn has reached the 50-point mark for a fourth straight season and looks like it will be five the way he is playing. He had five goals and seven assists on his way to a Stanley Cup last season. He is an important part of the power play as well which is an important part of the game. The Blues and Armstrong really like what Schenn has provided ever since coming over from the Flyers.
Off to a Schenn-sational start
The Blues are 5-2-3 for 13 points and third in the central division. They are off to a good start and a huge reason for that is what Schenn has done so far. In 10 games, he has 11 points with eight goals and three assists including two goals in their last game against the Los Angeles Kings. He has two goals and two assists on the power play which is one of his roles on the team. Schenn isn’t afraid to create scoring chances or give a hit as he has 23 shots on goal and 20 hits. He has been doing a great job for the Blues so far this season. If he plays all games or close to it, he will have a career year. He is doing exactly what the Blues were hoping he would do when getting the extension.
The Final Horn
The Blues won their first Stanley Cup in franchise history last season and they’re looking for more. Their championship window is still open and will be kept open as they will have their core players together for the next few years. Schenn has been doing great on the same line with Jaden Schwartz and Vladimir Tarasenko. These three have been one of the best lines in the league since being together in St. Louis. Fans were excited when they made the move to get him and now they are excited that he is staying. Nobody knows how the rest of the season will go but for right now, he is exactly what the team has needed so far.
